Help with blood test before seeing endocrinologist

Hello, firstly thank you for all the posts, as they have helped me to help myself, a lifeline. 👍 I have been ill for years and have finally been diagnosed with Hashimoto disease last November. My symptoms are extreme exhaustion, hormone fluctuations ( panic attacks, depression, tearful etc), muscle cramps, bad brain fog. I have not been given any medication ( my doctor told me to take more Vit D and see a councillor 🤦🏼‍♀️). I have blood tests done via doctor but no thyroid tests apart from TSH, Upon reading lots of posts I have had a private blood test done and include test results.

Ferritin 35 r13-150

B 12 67 r25-165

D 75 r 50-200

TSH. 1.85 r 0.27-4.2

Ft3. 4.8. r 3.1-6.8

Ft4. 14.4 r 12-22

Thyroglobulin antibodies 382 r0-115

Thyroid peroxidase 106 r 0-34

I have also started taking vitamin supplements Vit B12, +complex, D3, Calcium, ferrous fermanganate, selenium, as well as a basic multivitamin and mineral supplement. I am trying to do gluten free diet and go paleo, also trying to ween myself off of lansoprazole and HRT femoston. I have had to go private to see the Endocrinologist as I can not wait 48 weeks on the NHS. Can someone please explain my blood test results and advise me on what I need to ask the Endocrinologist as I have an appointment this Friday. I thank you in advance.

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

Vitamin D is ok, might be better at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol might be better still

Ferritin is still low

Important when supplementing iron to get full iron panel test 2-3 times year to check iron not going too high, even if ferritin is low

Recommend reading many of humanbean indepth replies on iron and ferritin

B12 still on low side

No folate result

TSH is low. This is all most GP’s and endocrinologist look at

But Ft4 is also low. This together with high thyroid antibodies and low vitamins suggests you are likely to benefit from starting on levothyroxine, but you may struggle to get medics to agree

Going absolutely strictly gluten free, getting off Lansoprazole and improving low vitamin levels ....retest again in 2-3 months

Multivitamins are never recommended on here

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones
