Morning everyone hope your all well!

Asked a few days ago if anyone had any idea of the price of private blood tests. Was emailed (won’t name the hospital) back today in response to an email I sent querying blood test charges. This also includes a doctors fee that can’t be excluded as they say this must be interpreted/analysed by one of there physicians.

Hope it maybe of any help in future as a rough guide if there is a similar post seeking examples

I have contacted the lab and have detailed the costs of the blood tests requested below, all results should be received within 48-72 hours:

Free T4 ] = £90

Free T3 ]

TPO Antibodies = £46

Tg Antibodies = £75.50

Vitamin B12 ] = £92

GP 30minute appointment = £128

Total Bloods = £ 499.50

Total price = £ 627.50

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Those prices are eye watering!

Can't you order a thyroid/vitamin bundle with venous blood draw kit from Medichecks or Blue Horizon then attend one of their clinics or arrange their home phlebotomy, you'd save an awful lot of money.

I could source all the tests listed above (plus CRP) for a total of

£71.10 (full price - 10% i.e. £79 - £7.90)

from here :

medichecks.com/products/adv...

Sometimes Medichecks have lower prices/higher discounts during their sales.

I don't know anything about Lupus so I don't know what tests to look for.

One thing I'm not clear on is exactly what you are looking for.

You appear to want thyroid testing and then to discuss the results with a doctor. But the test I linked above will do all the tests and include a doctor's report as well if you choose to go for it. The doctor's report will treat the test results in the same way that the NHS would because the doctors who write the reports have to follow NHS guidelines in answering.

You must have seen people reporting tests results on here, and then lots of people pile in and offer feedback.

I get the impression that private testing confuses you somehow, but I'm not clear what the difficulty is.

Everything confuses me here humanbean to be truthful.Yes all the information although fantastic and helpful that comes up can/is very overwhelming. It’s very difficult to take in at the same time with feeling utterly dreadful and sounding uncertain & lost with work and family issues to deal with too.Fatigue insomnia headaches aches pains joint movement tinnitus stomach issues and most importantly mood and mental health.I’m looking to just get my bloods done for thyroid as I was under medicated and have raised my dosage. That was my own personal plan. Now I have had different brands of levo in the past/very recently and have strong evidence/personal opinion that certain ones are causing me the most concern.Regards the lupus it is within my family and also a close member has it.That is just to put her mind at ease as she is connecting everything she went through with me.You can see the pain and concern in her eyes and that hurts me within. You fine people are all intelligent helpful and organised.I’m scatterbrained and unorthodox in my approach as I work this out slowly.I am smiling here as I say this and I am most certainly not being rude! Unfortunately I will be popping back regularly to try take your invaluable advice in.Albeit more probably in a parrot and repetitive nature but please accept my apologise there!

Yes all the information although fantastic and helpful that comes up can/is very overwhelming.

I started my own "road to better health" nearly nine years ago. I dithered for a year or more, trying to work out what was going on, what I should be doing, how it all worked. I was extremely ill at the time with untreated hypothyroidism, and other conditions that I couldn't do anything about - and still can't.

I finally decided I had to risk some money to get private testing done. I didn't really understand how it worked, and I was frightened of spending money I could ill afford if it turned out to be a scam or a con. (I'm not a trusting soul.)

But once I'd done my first private test I realised that I'd been getting myself worked up unnecessarily. I will admit I have, over the years, bought some tests that turned out to be pointless, and this is still a risk now if I branch out of my comfort zone. But I try not to berate myself if I get it wrong, or I didn't understand what I was doing. I'm doing the best I can, and I can't turn back the clock and get my money back, so I carry on regardless. What else can any of us do?

If you make a decision and want someone to tell you if you've done the right thing, then write a post and say something like "I want to test XYZ and I'm planning to buy this test. Is it the best one and will it tell me what I want to know?" We can then point you in a cheaper or better direction if possible, or we can tell you to go for it.

Everyone on this forum has to start from a position of ignorance and build up a store of knowledge. We've even had a few people over the years come here and tell us they are doctors and we've got it all wrong. And we've had a few doctors with thyroid disease themselves who can't understand why they feel so awful given they are being treated according to the guidelines.

But many people who have followed the suggestions from this forum acquired with patient experience do find themselves feeling much better.

You should read this thread :

Good luck. :)

Actually, I've just realised I've probably spent more money over the years on supplements that were pointless or which disagreed with me than I've spent on tests that were badly chosen or pointless. C'est la vie. *Sigh*

Understandable! Bet your choices are more researched and thought out through self education on the matters and probably with help from others.Maybe that’s why your are here helping. You know and understand the pitfalls and frustrations to find the correct path forward. Its certainly not due to your ego that’s for sure! It’s because your a caring person......Well there you go I had a discussion around Askmygp on here and laughed when I found out with a dull “DUH”! what was the best way to use it.So,today, dreading having to explain why I wanted a prescription change verbally to the doctor I wrote it all down.Detailing the pattern of my numerous doctor/A&E (oooft the fun of blue lights) visits Askmygp requests and calls. To check my complaints symptoms medication prescribed and reactions.I highlighted roughly the times of all these and asked them to query all this. Then I stated to them the brands I had been given by the pharmacist at those times.I requested a call back from a doctor but received a reply on Askmygp from the surgery pharmacist. They will issue a new prescription upping the dosage to let me use a tablet splitter I said said I would use.Now they never wanted to discuss my thyroid as they kept saying I was within range. How easy was that, strange? All thanks to the advice and help from the great people on here!

I will definitely be following that link........Need to get my health back first though.Oh and I mentioned with “advice from Thyroid Uk” to my doctor when requesting to see an endocrinologist.Maybe they know there’s a major problem simmering away. Will only admit it in practices with colleagues or there own individual thoughts......Geez oh I only popped in here to thank you people and look at the nonsense I’m writing

Ooops time to stop.Take care and stay safe!

I suspect they do. This forum has over 116,000 members of whom the vast majority are British, and the vast majority are female.
