I want to start taking these supplements but not sure what to have or which form either. I am taking liothyrinine t3 prescribed by endocrinologist for underactive thyroid. not taking thyroxine at all. are zince and selenium important for thyroid function?

It might be worth testing first.

Zinc is recommended to be around half way through range and it should be balanced with copper. We Hypos often have one low and the other high.

Selenium can help with T4 to T3 conversion and may help reduce thyroid antibodies when Hashi's is present.

Best forms of selenium are selenium l-selenomethionine and yeast bound selenium. Worst and least absorbable forms are selenite and selenate so are best avoided.

100mcg of selenium is considered a fairly safe dose unless tested and known to need a higher dose. I liked Cytoplan selenium

cytoplan.co.uk/selenium

It's often on 3 for 2, is a nice small tablet and has no odour which, unfortunately, some selenium supplements do have an unpleasant odour.

Hi,

Through my research I've come to taking 200 mcg of selenium through supplementation or 2 Brazil nuts a day. As for zinc, I supplement with 30 mg in the form of zinc picolinate . Its important to take copper 2 mg as well because the zinc/copper ratio needs to be always balanced. I use the brands Genestra or pure encapsulation because they are free of many additives and food allergens. Isabella Wentz and Chris Kesser have been helpful in my research.
