I was diagnosed underactive over 20 years ago and unfortunately never felt any benefit from starting Levothyroxine. However I stuff with my GP's advice and continued taking the tablets. Last year I saw an Endocrinologist who directed me to his private clinic where I started a trial of T3 unfortunately this did not work for me. However, I am still seeking a solution to my ongoing lack of energy and general ill health so took the advice I have read within this forum to get a Medichecks Advanced Thyroid function test. I currently take 100/125 alternating daily along with 1000ug Vitamin B12 and 4000iu/100ug Vitamin D3 (again daily). The results I have received from Medichecks seem to be within range however Folate Serum is “outside normal range” I wonder if someone could interpret the results overall and provide any guidance ?
Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)
Or Thorne Basic B is another option that contain folate, but is large capsule
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
I am male and 58. Is there anything I can do about the Ferritin level ? The T3 was initially good however the benefits were relatively short lived and the very high price I was paying for consultations and the t3 started to become a cost/benefit dilemma. I feel however that the process of evaluating wasn’t defined properly and my gp was not interested in supporting.
What is you opinion on the overall blood results ?
Hi I took Levothyroxine for 18 years. Initially it did appear to work but as time went on , particularly the last 3 years, I had all sorts of problems. Seeking advice from this forum and also TPAUK I went to see a private GP who prescribed NDT. I have taken ERFA thyroid now for 13 months and am so much better. Looking at your results I’d say that you need to have all your vitamin and minerals up to optimum levels. Your vitamin D could be higher. You might want to try NDT as an alternative possibly?
Thank you for your advice and comments. Based on this I spoke with my consultant who has requested blood tests to check for himself and hopefully he will act on this. However based on what you have commented I will adjust the vitamin aspect myself as this seems within my control. Once the levels are more in line with recommendations i will then reassess matters. Big thank you
