I have now received my 2nd lot of test results concerning my Thyroid etc. They are as follows:-

Ferritin 149 ug/L (Range is 30-650) Okay

Folate Test failed

Vitamin B12 - Active 31 pmo/L (Range is 37.5-188) Low

Vitamin D 66 nmol/L (Range is 50-250) Okay

TSH <0.005 mlU/L (Range is 0.27-4.2) Low

Free T3 8.3 pmol/L (Range is 3.1-6.8) High

Free Thyroxine <0.5 pmol/L (Range is 12-22) Low

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 21.3 klU/L (Range is 0-115) Okay

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 12.9klU/L (Range is 0-34) Okay

These results are from a second test as some of the first ones had failed.

Please can any of you knowledgeable people advise me particularly on thyroid as I don't feel right at the moment. Many thanks

Well your vitamin levels are terrible

B12 is extremely low - pity folate level failed

Are you vegetarian or vegan

GP won’t understand an active B12 result

But any Active B12 below 70 is too low

Request GP test B12 and folate

Do NOT start any B12 or vitamin B complex until had further testing

Vitamin D is too low

Are you currently taking any vitamin D supplements

No not taking any supplements as told all I could take was paracetamol as anything else could interfere with my methotrexate. Not vegetarian or vegan and eat loads of eggs meat dairy butter as on a low carb diet (although not losing any weight ) which started me thinking that something was amiss. Eat veggies and berries salads, lots of fish have a fairly decent diet and I have never been deficient in B12 or vit D before or at least never been told. Just a bit at a loss at the moment as I desperately do not want to go back to levothyroxine only be only half alive as I felt then but have a feeling that's what I will be told.

Take these results to your GP and oncologist

Thanks so much for this, reading through this whilst not understanding all of it I find this scarily familiar given the similarity of case notes to mine. I will act on this straight after the weekend. I don't have an oncologist or a GP at the moment as they have left and our practice are desperately trying to recruit some, but I have a rheumatologist that I can forward this to. I am not due another blood test until end of January but think this needs looking into now. Once again thank you.

Make an appointment with GP surgery and insist that they test serum B12 and folate now

Are you currently taking vitamin D supplement

Government recommends everyone supplements Oct to April as a minimum. Many people need to supplement continuously
