I was recommended to take a magnesium supplement a while ago. I tried magnesium citrate, which had a major laxative effect (sorry to be blunt!). I would like to try magnesium chloride, but was wondering if there is a brand for magnesium chloride anyone could recommend? I have come across Alta Health Products magnesium chloride, and also Togetherhealth marine magnesium complex (which I don't think is magnesium chloride, but I was wondering if this would be appropriate?)
Thank you in advance!

Magnesium citrate is usually OK provided you don't take too much, no more than 400 mg. I suspect magnesium chloride will be worse as I think it is less absorbable. Maybe someone else can recommend another form which they use.
I took this a while ago and was considering ordering again, but I found Good State Natural Ionic Magnesium. Seems like it's the same formulation as Carolyn Dean's product. Slight difference in other ingredients, as Good State also has fulvic acid and non-GMO sorbic acid. Just curious whether you (or anyone else if they're reading) has ever looked into the Good State one.
hey. I know this is an old post. I am looking to start taking a magnesium glycinate supplement but nervous as when I took a different magnesium supplement a few months ago which contained 3 different types and zinc and vit d in one I reacted to it badly in that it caused severe anxiety and burning breasts and really didn’t react well at all for some reason. Can I ask how glycinate helped/helps you? I’m hoping my it will help me calm down and to sleep.
I have bought tablets so that I can cut them and start with a quarter and see how I react I think.
Depends on what you’re after. Mag Malate will help with energy production. Mag Glycinate will be more relaxing. Chloride tends to be in topical products and Magnesium bath salts.
Thank you for that information! I am mainly looking for the supplement to support the health of my skin, as my hormone imbalances due to hypothyroidism have meant that I have experienced severe acne, and have just finished a course of isotretinoin.
Not sure why you've specifically been recommended Magnesium for your acne. Unless it's related to something else. High blood sugar can raise testosterone levels in women. However, you'd need to address the elevated blood sugar issues in other ways to have a real effect on testosterone.
I see - I think I was recommended magnesium as it was low on a blood test, and I was told it can help support hair, skin, bone and muscle health. I have cut out a majority of refined sugar from my diet, and do not consume gluten or dairy. Are there any other ways you could suggest addressing elevated sugar levels? Thank you.
Not sure if you’ve ever received advice on your thyroid hormone levels here but that would be a good place to start. I don’t know if you have elevated sugar levels? I only mentioned that as one reason for high testosterone due to elevated insulin levels. Sounds like there’s something else going on and I don’t know if you’ve had this investigated by your GP. A good nutritional therapist can also help.
However, supplementing with magnesium is helpful for many people as it’s involved in more than 300 reactions in the body.
I’ve been taking Magnesium + by Future You. I take it because I have osteoporosis and it’s one of the things that is good to take. I’ve not had any gut problems and I’m prone to IBS - I took three tries to find a calcium supplement I could stomach.Future You are good in that you can try your first month free so you know if it suits you. You pay postage then let them know whether or not you want them to continue sending it out to you. You will have no problem cancelling if you’re u don’t want any more.
Hi - I'm new to this site, but I've had hashimotos for sometime. I use Magnesium chloride oil, from 'Betteryou'. Works well, and helps with cramps and feet vibrations really quickly. With anything don't take more than advised.
Its a spray oil. 5 sprays to start then build up to what you need. I've been using it on and for a while and it helps. Although now I've gone gluten free I don't need much thyroxin as my body is absorbing it btr, and hashimotos doesn't flare much. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I've recently gone gluten free too, so hopefully that helps. How do you know your body is better at absorbing it? Do you have blood tests, or just feel different? Sorry for all of the questions!
The cramps in my leg go quickly, and I also feel btr. I dont take vitamins constantly tho as keen not to over do it, so i eat high magnesium foods also. Like nuts, fish and lentils etc. I make a nice seeded bread to replace bread which is lush with salmon and goats cheese. Also potassium high foods ...bannanas etc. My b12 also goes low sometimes so use the spray for that and eat red meat and eggs etc. I guess its a balancing act, always listening to my body. I do get my bloods done regularly. Ask as many questions as u like, happy to share my experiences.
(which is liquid) but they also do 2 oils for external application. I personally haven't tried the oils but my mum liked the one with msm after her knee replacement.
