The magnesium blood test is useless but I would supplement with magnesium if you have signs and symptoms consistent with magnesium deficiency. Our diet is generally magnesium deficient so eat magnesium rich foods such as green vegetables, tomatoes, whole grains and nuts.

What’s your most recent vitamin D result

ALWAYS test before starting any supplements

Test via vitamindtest.org.uk

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, you may need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Calculator for working out dose you may need to bring level to 40ng/ml = 100nmol

With your Vit D, are you also taking it's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-MK7?

Magnesium best taken in the afternoon or evening, but must be four hours away from levothyroxine

Hi

But D is 61 took 8.30 am I have fibromyalgia and under active thyroid

Taking 75 mg thyroxine.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toPJ39

See my reply to your other post too

75mcg levothyroxine is only one step up from starter dose levothyroxine.

Fibromyalgia is frequently under treated hypothyroidism

Recommend getting FULL thyroid and vitamin testing 6-8 weeks after starting vitamin D and magnesium supplements

Only start one supplement at a time and then wait 2 weeks before adding another.

Do you have Hashimoto’s (autoimmune thyroid disease) diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies?

No scan on thyroid , never seen a Endo. Doctors just say blood tests are normal.

If I went private would I get more help.

What are your most recent thyroid results?

TSH, Ft4 and Ft3

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine is 24 hours before

PJ39 profile image
PJ39 in reply toSlowDragon

Doctors only wanted TSH that was 1.26 done 8/10/2020

Bloods done at blue horizon

TSH 2.60

T4 TOTAL 101.0

FREE T4 17.9

FREE T3 3.84

These were done prick test 8.30am 29/09/2020

So very poor conversion

Ft4 is 59% through range

Ft3 only 20% through range

Helpful calculator for working out percentage through range

chorobytarczycy.eu/kalkulator

Very Low Ft3

Easily Room for 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks later

Need folate, ferritin and B12 tested

PJ39 profile image
PJ39 in reply toSlowDragon

Blue horizon could not do folate because the blood was haemolysed

Ferritin was 429

B12 532

Cortisol 741

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toPJ39

You need referral to thyroid specialist endocrinologist

Email Dionne at Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3

..NHS and Private

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

Terrible conversion of Ft4 to Ft3

High cortisol
