Latest blood test results

Hello everyone

I'm reposting my latest blood test results, as I didn't get any responses last week... would be very glad of any advice!

I am now 16 weeks pregnant and although I can't seem to get any pregnancy ranges out of anyone (midwife, specialist, Medichecks) I have been having quite bad muscle aches (legs/shoulders), mainly when I've had a day on my feet, and this makes me wonder if I have any scope for increasing my dosage of thyroid hormones, as it has been a symptom of under treatment in the past.. or whether to just blame it on being pregnant!

I'm currently on 150mcg thyroxine (up from 112.5 pre-pregnancy dose) and 12.5mcg T3 (self medicated)

Results as follows:

Inflammation- CRPHS 2.06 mg/L (Range: < 5)

Iron Status - Ferritin 60.60 ug/L (Range: 13 - 150)

Vitamin B12 - Active 97.600 pmol/L (Range: > 37.5)

Vitamin D - 119.00 nmol/L (Range: 50 - 175)

TSH - 0.14 mIU/L (Range: 0.27 - 4.2)

Free T3 - 5.47 pmol/L (Range: 3.1 - 6.8)

Free Thyroxine - 19.700 pmol/L (Range: 12 - 22)

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 21.400 kIU/L (Range: < 115)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 28.80 kIU/L (Range: < 34)

As I said above, I can't seem to find out what the pregnancy ranges are for T4 and T3 but are they normally higher than standard ranges?

As to TSH, the obestrics specialist I saw tried to scare me into stopping T3 as my TSH is surpressed, but all research I have done seems to point to high TSH being a problem in pregnancy, not low...but is this correct??

Look forward to some helpful feedback

Thank you! 😁👍

Sorry you didn't get feedback last time, Molly. I hope some of our younger folks get back to you this time. Quite a few of us who are active on here have no experience of hypo pregnancy (golden oldies or male!) and what sort of levels are needed which is why I suspect you didn't get responses.

Hello Lalatoot,

Yes I did wonder if that was the case!

Thanks for replying anyway! :-)

Oh dear! The forum has grown so much and is so busy now.

I'm pretty sure there are pregnancy ranges and they've been discussed on the forum before now. I'll tag a couple of the admins, who may have the info you need. In the meantime, try searching on the forum, and don't let your doctors scare you about the low TSH.

So you have increased dose levothyroxine by 37.5mcg

Guidelines recommend increase in levothyroxine of 25mcg as soon as pregnancy is confirmed

Your results look pretty good, about perfect

I don’t think there’s any official ranges for Ft4 and definitely none for Ft3 ....only TSH

Guidelines on this post from this morning

Thanks SlowDragon

OK, that makes sense - that probably explains why I can't find out anything apart from TSH!!

Yes I have increased by 37.5mcg, but I had decreased it to add T3, and was anticipating increasing it a little bit anyway, before I knew I was pregnant.

I have been wondering if my aches and pains were just a case of overdoing it...as I can't really complain about how I feel the rest of the time, and definitely feeling better than the first trimester

Thanks for the link to the guidelines too.

No personal experience, I am in the golden oldie category and hypothyroidism came after pregnancy for me.

I think I may have seen something about ranges in the different trimesters in a post where a member has put a picture of their results, but it will be impossible to find it.

As I said above, I can't seem to find out what the pregnancy ranges are for T4 and T3 but are they normally higher than standard ranges?

Have you rung the path lab at the hospital where your tests are processed?

Your ferritin could be better, half way through range is recommended.

Thanks SeasideSusie,

No I hadnt thought about ringing the lab - I'll give that a go!

Your comment re ferritin is interesting - do you recommend any particular supplements?

Your comment re ferritin is interesting - do you recommend any particular supplements?

You shouldn't take iron supplements unless you are known to have iron deficiency (an iron panel would show this) or iron deficiency anaemia (a full blood count will show anaemia). This is because if your serum iron level and saturation % are already good then supplementing will take them too high, and too much iron is as bad as too little.

Your ferritin level isn't dire by any means; however, some experts say that the optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is between 90-110 ng/ml.

If you weren't pregnant I'd just suggest eating liver, liver pate or black pudding regularly but you can't at the moment. So all I can suggest is that you eat as much iron rich foods as possible, I have this list and you can Google for others:

I recall a post about ranges for pregnancy about a month ago maybe even couple of months ago.

I've definitely seen pictures of results posted here with ranges on for the different trimesters, but they will be impossible to find without hours of searching old posts. I find it strange that some labs include these but others don't.

I tried finding them actually think they were tangled inside another poster post.

Somebody must have started their own thread as there was a picture that showed the different trimesters and that can only be put in an opening post.

Someone actually had it typed out in their post .... they weren’t the poster and I think the actual conversation was about something else that migrated to thyroid/ pregnancy stuff. I just don’t recall the actual post!

I am another golden oldie, I have had two pregnancies with hypothyroidism. Unfortunately I cannot help however. My children were born in 1974 and 1979. I have been hypo since I myself was a baby. No one worried about my thyroid levels at any time with either pregnancy. Perhaps because my thyroid was totally destroyed so not unlike those with Hashi no chance it might start producing extra hormone. Or imore likely it probably washington considered necessary to monitor anyone. No consolation to you I appreciate but there were no thyroid related problems or complications with either baby.

I sincerely hope you find theanswers you need very soon and wish you all the best with your new baby,
