My doctors are refusing to monitor T3

Finally convinced my endo.specialist to prescribed Liothyronine sodium 5mcg around 6 months ago. My doctors are refusing to monitor T3 and increase the dose if needed. Pls. see my blood work results in the last 6 months. I learned a lot from this group. I feel I need to increase the dose to reach the maximum normal range. I still have some of the symptoms I was experiencing before but doing much, much better since starting this medication. I can get Liothyronine outside of my insurance and need your help to guide me on how I can increase the doses from 5mcg safely. Thanks

Unfortunately, without an up to date FT3 result it’s not going to be straightforward to advise. Aren’t healthcare providers stupid sometimes? :( They’ll let you have 5mcg of liothyronine but refuse to see what effect it’s having on you? Utterly crazy.

But I will take a punt that it’s not enough. Before you started taking liothyronine your FT3 was pretty much at the bottom of the range. 5mcg of liothyronine is not a lot (though ill-informed medics will try to scare you into believing it is). To give you an idea, if you were on T3 replacement only (so no levothyroxine) a full replacement dose would be in the region of 40-60mcg daily.

On combination levothyroxine/liothyronine it’s common to see people taking 100mcg levothyroxine/20mcg liothyronine. That’s not a general rule, just a commonly prescribed dosage. Some need a bit less, some need more.

But before trying to go any further with guesswork, how much levothyroxine are you on now?

Thanks for your response. I used to take 88mcg before (with no liothyronine sodium tab ) .The specialist decreased the dose to 75mcg and then added liothyronnie 5mcg. I'm taking levothyroxine 75 mcg for the last 6 months. Thanks again
