These results show suppressed TSH (as you would expect); free T4 below range both times but free T3 is now quite a lot lower - now 47.5% through range; previously 83.5% through range.
Personally I like my free T4 to be much higher than this, and more free T3 than your latest result, so would want to add some levo and see what that does (hopefully at least some would convert into free T3 too) - but if you've tried and rejected levo, and don't feel great, maybe add another 1/4 grain?
Hi fusia-pink, thank you for your reply. I don't feel too bad but more tired than usual. There is a red highlight and low next to results of T4 total and T4 and a high for anti thyroidperoxidase.
As I understand things with NDT you dose to the relief of symptoms and not a blood test, as these blood tests and ranges were introduced to be used alongside the introduction of the new thyroid hormone replacement - Levothyroxine which was launched to supersede NDT.
How do you feel compared to last time ?
Looking at the numbers, and if the tests were both taken with the same time lapse between dose and blood test your levels looked to have dropped, especially the T3 so presume you have some new symptoms.
I understand that on NDT the TSH will be low/suppressed and that T4 is generally low in the level whilst T3 generally higher than when on T4 only and some people run with a T3 slightly over range, as, it's not all about the numbers, but how you feel that matters.
I've found my own levels roughly reflect the above and I seem at my best running at the very top of the T3 range, or tipping slightly over but I'm certainly not hyperactive in any shape or form.
I'm with Graves post RAI and started self medicating about 2 years ago:
I didn't know that and of course it makes sense as I knew I needed to check on how I was doing because I have felt more tired, the only way I know is to get tests and go from there and I suppose my body is telling me already without results, thinking back even to dr and endo appointments-they were asking me to alter my dose because of numbers and I was feeling fine at the time.
The tests were more or less the same time, I have other issues but not sure if they are related to thyroid?
Radioactive Iodine that is " said " to be a " therapy " - it's a toxic substance you drink and it slowly burns out, and disables the thyroid in situ, ultimately rendering the patient hypothyroid and without any thyroid function.
A treatment I deeply regret - though recommended in the NHS for Graves Disease - which is an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid : I knew nothing back when diagnosed in 2003 and simply trusted the doctors :
Anyway, we are where we are, and if I were you, I'd increase the NDT back to where you felt well as it's as simply as that and doesn't need a calculator or a slide rule but common sense.
I now take a yearly private blood test to check my ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D along with T3 and T4 and adjust my supplements accordingly .
P.S. You can always post the results and ranges on here and ask for opinion - you'll be given sensible answers, it costs nothing, and we all learn from each other.
