Hi, I’ve been feeling really rubbish for a while. I have fibromyalgia and a lot of the time my aches, pains etc are put down to that. However, my symptoms also mirror thyroid problems so I just don’t know. I went to the Docs for blood tests which came back with the report saying normal. The Doc thinks I’m perimenopause because I haven’t had a period for 5 months and I have just turned 50 plus I am having flushes. The results of my thyroid are:
TSH - 0.54
T4 - 13.8
Vitamin D - 55.1
Are these normal in your experience?

Well, your FT4 is only 31.48% through the range, which is rather low, and doesn't really correspond to your TSH, which is also low in range. But, going through your past posts, nowhere can I find if you've been diagnosed with hypo and put on thyroid hormone replacement, which would change the interpretation of the results. There's no such thing as an absolute 'normal'. It all depends.
I haven’t been diagnosed. I joined the group as a friend suggested I might have symptoms but I have several blood tests over the past 12 months and Report back normal. Just frustrated because something is making me feel like this! 🤦♀️. Just don’t know what to do. Do I challenge that they are low? Really getting me down x
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
You may need to get full Thyroid testing privately as NHS refuses to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3 £29 (via NHS private service )
