Which Folate supplements would you recommend and some general advice please!

Hi Everyone. Thankyou for being here. I have posted about Folate before but wanted to know if I should restart my B12. My levels last year were 320, prior supplementing 200.

Folate is down to 2.. I have problems with the B group of vitamins. I have been prescribed them by a clinic in the past and I felt very toxic and had to cut them down, then out:(. So, I have been looking at Methyl B by Biocare as it is drops, but unsure if I need all the B group.

I have felt really unwell last few weeks with dry mouth, stringy? Saliva, white sore tongue and my gums are not in good shape. I have indigestion but not heartburn and hot flushes, I am past menopause btw! I'm waking up in a sweat with panic, adrenal. rush, can't relax bit off balance not dizzy as such and aching muscles. I have M. E. as well as Hashi's. Im not eating a lot and I'm a thin hypothyroid sufferer, my Doctors reaction, last year when he came out was that I was anorexic and I needed to start eating😡 Which isn't surprising at our surgery, at present, there is no more available. Hoping that will change very soon. I did post test results but TSH is up and down, from 2 to 4. Free T4 14. Raised Tgab not TPO but haven't had them tested for ages as refused. I am very much by myself here and it does get overwhelming sometimes so I am very grateful for your thoughts and apologies for long post. Thankyou

Add lots of folate rich fresh fruit & veg to your diet: healthline.com/nutrition/fo... These come with the extra benefits of fibre & other essential micronutrients. Fruits also an easy snack food.

Try sublingual methylcobalamin B12. You may need to try a few different brands of the latter to see which you feel best on.

Thankyou BadHare. I have just read the link and I had ordered spinach already, because I love it. I eat lots of peas beans and, strangely enough, I am eating eggs again. My drop in Folate coincided with going gluten free, but my Ferritin levels increased. I took Jarrows B12, with no problem so will send for more. Painful mouth at present itchy scalp as well. Time for another blood test. I want to use Medicheck. Thanks again

Cook your spinach, though, as you are hypo. If you decide to take a folate supplement, Jarrow formulas methylfolate is good.

Your TsH is right at top of range

FT4 near bottom of range

Folate below range

B12 low

Vitamin D was extremely low

Ferritin?

You clearly should be started on Levothyroxine

Would recommend you start supplementing to improve vitamin D, folate and B12 for 2-3 months

Vitamin D, GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol. Aiming to improve vitamin D by self supplementing to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.

It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Frequently with Hashimoto's we need higher dose than average

B12 low and folate extremely low . Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Perhaps start with just 1/2 or even 1/4 tablet. See if you can tolerate ok. If ok increase to one per day Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).

Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Strongly suggest you then get full Thyroid and vitamin testing privately after working on improving vitamins
