Vitamin B12 ... Which is the best one please?

Hi,

I'm ordering my next loads of vitamins from Amazon so that I have a good stock and don't have to try and find anything over here ( it can be tricky to find normal stuff on Fuerteventura)...

...currently taking Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin 1000mcg by Nu U Nutrition amazon.co.uk/Vitamin-Methyl...

I'm curious what everyone here takes ... especially those of you feeling healthy :)

I am grateful for any help or advice as currently feeling like a zombie and figured getting vitamins optimal might help with thyroid med conversion.

Thank you for reading,

T

Methylcobalamin B12 is preferable to Cyanocobalamin B12 if we've P.A.

Well, I wouldn't be using the HealthAid one.

The pack says it is a tablet yet the description mentions "capsule shell". Whichever it is, it's not sublingual and a sublingual lozenge will be absorbed through the mucous membranes in the oral cavity therefore will bypass the stomach and will be better absorbed.

Melthylcobalamin is better absorbed and more bioavailable than cyanocobalamin. Cyanocobalamin has to be converted into methylcobalamin or adenosylcobalamin - the two active forms of B12.

When I take B12 I use a sublingual lozenge that contains both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin

Job done!

And it works out cheaper than the HealthAid for a much better supplement.

You might need to try a few to see which suits you best.

I prefer Solgar methylcobalamin sublinguals as Cytoplan & Jarrow had no effect whatsoever, though other people I've chatted with on here have said the opposite.

I now inject hydroxocobalamin weekly, with the occasional sublingual if I'm not at home, which is proving to be both cheaper & more effective.

Thank you... Just visited all the local health shops here in the city and found that they all had cyanocobalamin B12 .... Luckily the very last one had the solgar one that you just suggested cost almost €20 but no matter should in theory last 6 months so give me time to get some online.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

You're welcome!

The last 5,000mcg was £26 for 60, hence swapping to injections, though I cut those once my levels were optimal. If Solgar doesn't work for you, try a different brand.

Good luck!

I use these sublingual drops. Only once a week for me as this is a hefty-ish dose at 3000mcg and my levels are excellent now.

Treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency-methylcobalamine? Cyancobalamine? Hydroxocobalamin?-clearing the confusion.

sci-hub.tw/10.1038/ejcn.201...

fill in the letter match captcha and read the full text.

"Vitamin B12 (cyancobalamin, Cbl) has two active co-enzyme forms, methylcobalamin (MeCbl) and adenosylcobalamin (AdCbl).

There has been a paradigm shift in the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency such that MeCbl is being extensively used and promoted. This is despite the fact that both MeCbl and AdCbl are essential and have distinct metabolic fates and functions.

MeCbl is primarily involved along with folate in hematopiesis and development of the brain during childhood.

Whereas deficiency of AdCbl disturbs the carbohydrate, fat and amino-acid metabolism, and hence interferes with the formation of myelin.

Thereby, it is important to treat vitamin B12 deficiency with a combination of MeCbl and AdCbl or hydroxocobalamin or Cbl.

Regarding the route, it has been proved that the oral route is comparable to the intramuscular route for rectifying vitamin B12 deficiency.

Hi - I think something many people forget to look at with supplements - is the

... "OTHER Ingredients" slipped in there.

Such as titanium dioxide, silica dioxide, steraic acid, magnessium sterate (not - a good form... of beneficial magnesium)

fillers, binders etc etc.

Capsules are usually easier to find with less unwanteds. Liquids and powders can often be found with even less or even NO unwanteds. In fact various B12 (Hydroxy, Adeno, Methyl etc) can be found in liquid drops with the only other ingredient purified water. Can be held sublingual too.

Injections of course are usually pure - and bypass the need for all the efficient bodily functions needed for efficient absorption or oral supplements.

Hope it helps GazKaz
