Can someone advise a maintenance dose of Vitamin D please? And why is Methylcobalamin a better version of B12 than Cyanocobalamin? I have made a mistake and ordered the latter :s

Thank you will have a read.

Have you had your Vit D tested? I'm guessing you are trying to maintain a good level (over 80nmol/L?)

(NB there are different measures - e.g. if result is 75 nmol/L would give 75/2.5 = 30 ng/mL)

I was low (30 something can't remember!) and felt better after supplementing (up to 4000iu daily) got tested in March and it was over 100 I felt OK so I stopped for awhile (prefer sunshine to drops!). Now I've just started taking 1 to 2000iu again for Autumn/winter, as it feels colder and joints are starting to hurt again - just my plan, hope it helps you! (PS Magnesium helps too). Yes, cannot remember off hand the levels but thought I would get them up nearer the top of the range. My Graves is reasonably stable on 2.5mg of Carbimazole but Im still feeling tired so I am on iron, vit B12 and vit D

The U.S. had raised the maintenance dose of vitamin D up to 2,000 i.e. and maybe now even higher now that there is so much proof that D is essential to fight infections, cancer and pain. It's good to get nearer the top of range but you should probably try to find out where you are at right now. I have also learned it is better NOT to take it daily but separated by a few days and that is how the prescription doses are usually written. Once or twice weekly.

My result was 77 (done this month) but I had taken a course of vitamin D in January and have been out in the sun plenty over the summer.

.....there is a website grassroots-health.org that explains dosing according to your results. There is a graph and both measurements are indicated. eg for every 10 points below say 60 you will need a 1000 IU's of VitD. The website is Canadian and full of good information....

OK Ive decided to take Spatone x 1 sachet, B12 x 2000mcg, Vitamin D x 2000ius and a B complex and see how I am in 3 months time. I think it may be the iron I need the most tbh.

Thank you for your replies :)
