If they diagnose you with 'depression' (a cover all statement I believe if someone is hypo) I am assuming that your Free T3 wasn't tested? Ask and I think they wont do so also a low or very low TSH doesn't mean we're overdosed although that seems to be the way the think.

If your're hypo and 'depressed' then they should give you some Active thyroid hormone, i.e. T3 to add to T4 instead of another prescription for deppression.

Of all the symptoms on this list they would probably give a separate prescription for all of them. If we are always complaining the professionals look at the blood test and if TSH and T4 are in range they will diagnose us with 'another' something or other and give a prescription for another medication..

So - if doctor wants to prescribe and your T3 is low - ask for the addition of T3:-

mdedge.com/psychiatry/artic...

The following is an excerpt:

"Only if a hypothyroid patient has had thyroid cancer does the endocrinology specialty approve suppressing his or her TSH, allowing the benefits that come from it, such as a longer life, improved health, and an improved sense of well-being.

But if a patient hasn't had cancer and suppresses his or her TSH with thyroid hormone, the increased life span, better health, and improved well-being, according to the specialty, must be "placebo effects." And the specialty warns that the price the patient is likely to pay for enjoying those "placebo effects" is osteoporosis, adrenal crisis, or sudden death from a heart attack. No endocrinologist I've ever asked has explained to me why these adverse effects don't befall thyroid cancer patients who live for decades with suppressed TSH levels. But feeling justified in "protecting" the non-cancer patients from their TSH-suppressing clinicians, some endocrinologists send complaints to regulatory boards, and woe betide the cited clinicians.

When I was first diagnosed I was hypo over. But had all symptoms of under active. Then got told I was under. But still not putting on weight. Up and down all the time and body temp always low.so frustrating. Just give up arguing with encrologist.s they dont want you to have a (Normal life) but dont let you die in peace either, if you have cancer like you said they will keep you alive to say they saving cancer patients. Will go to this appointment in April and if they dont listen and dont do the tests I will just leave it and buy my own on line. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ will update in April IF they do the tests.. Mean while keep suffering..! 😞 Thankyou for response and advice really appreciate it..πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘Œ

This is a bit strange i.e.:

"under control over treated ".

We cannot be 'under control' and over-treated at the same time. I assume they mean your TSH is 'under control' and FT4 over-treated.

Can you add the range on FT4 test

As you previously had Graves' disease, presumably you had RAI to destroy Thyroid?

Many many patients post RAI need the addition of small dose of T3

But first very important to get vitamins optimal. Many need to supplement to do so. Test FIRST

Gut symptoms are often gluten intolerance. Gluten is common problem with Hashimoto's and Graves

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under Β£20, just to rule it out first

Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Come back with new post once you get vitamins and full Thyroid results

Private tests are available.

Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Many of us frequently disappointed that endocrinologists don't test all these

Getting test as early as possible in morning and fasting and last dose of levothyroxine 24 hours prior to test

Very important to test folate, ferritin, vitamin D and B12

Come back with new post once you get results and ranges
