I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 2 years ago now, but had no symptoms & never felt unwell. My doctor put me on 100mg of Levothyroxine & after 2 weeks I started to feel bad: Headaches, Palpitations, hot flushes, diarrhoea, anxiety & feeling frightened but don't know what of! I thought why should I feel like this now, when I felt fine before? It didn't make sense. I came off the Levo and told my doctor. She reckoned the dose was too high & said I went from being Hypothyroid to Hyperthyroid. She wanted to put me on a lower dose but I refused as I became scared of the stuff! I didn't take any medication but took vitamins D3 & B12.
My blood results are as follows:
23rd May 2018: on no medication - TSH 120 mu/L (very high I know)
T4 5.0 pmol/L (below range)
I then decided to self-treat with Metavive IV from July 2018
9th August 2018: - TSH 75 mu/L (still high)
T4 5.0 pmol/L (below range)
5th November 2018: - TSH 52 mu/L (still high but coming down)
T4 5.0 pmol/L (below range)
21st November 2018: - TSH 38 mu/L (still high but down still further)
T4 6.6 pmol/L (below range but getting there)
T3 Normal - I was amazed that my T3 was tested this time.
So to sum up the Metative works for me slow but sure, but that doesn't matter because I'm still feeling as well as when I was first diagnosed! I appreciate we are all so different, so what works for me won't necessarily work for others.
Hi, this sounds like a mirror image of my story. My TSH was around 100 nearly 3 years ago but I felt fine and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I too went straight onto 100mcg Levothyroxine and with 2 months was a wreck. Since then I reduced it myself and have slowly increased back up and am now on 125mcg daily. If I said I feel fine I’d be lying but it isn’t a patch on how I felt in the first 6months-1 year.
I think it was all due to the fact that your body is compensating for the failing Thyroid and seemingly managing fine so of course when you add extra you get the over medicated Hyper like symptoms.
It’s good that you’re still feeling well and hope it stays that way for you but I would air on the side of caution as it may just hit you all of a sudden when your body can no longer support your under active thyroid.
Hope so Tim, there's no way I'll be going back on Levothyroxine though. If I do start to feel unwell I would go down the NDT route, even if I have to pay for it! I've always said you can't put a price on one's health.
That's a very low dose of Metavive. But Thai NDT should be about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost for the same dose. Always hard to tell as it varies with the strength of the pound
