Liothyronine is T3. If you have a prescription you need a pharmacist to dispense it, but how things go from there depends upon whether you have an NHS, or a private prescription (if you are in the UK of course). If an NHS prescription, you simply hand it over and there is no charge if you meet the normal "treated hypothyroidism" criteria and have registered for exception of charges), otherwise it's the normal prescription fee of £8.20 or thereabouts. If a private prescription, the cost will vary according to the pharmacist's individual charging, and you may therefore need to shop around. They are also entitled to levy a dispensing charge if they are so minded, which I believe has an upper limit but can't recall the actual figure. Generally the cost will be on a par with NHS pharmacist reimbursement rates, so in the order of £248 per 30 tablets of UK licensed T3. However, some pharmacist have got their head around importing Thybon Henning from Germany and this is very much cheaper, but not every chain will have sourcing arrangements that allow for such "independent" ordering, so again, you would have to shop around. The alternative is to order online & post your prescription to one of the German Pharmacists willing at the moment, to supply to UK patients.

Many thanks for that information.

Unfortunately I've had to go private as the NHS has been of little to no help in dealing with my hypothyroidism....only prescribing lyvothyroxine? Inadequately.

The great thyroid scandal!

NHS Drs can provide a private prescription if they wish to, as mine does for me.

For now then, your choice is to shop around the pharmacies here, for prices; or source directly from Germany if you're happy with the German make. I was quoted c£5,500 in an independent pharmacy here, for 600 tablets, against the £174 it cost to source from Germany ....

You can order Liothyronine online from Germany

Details on here - eg from Bennewitz

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Liothyronine in UK is £258 for 28 tablets

Thybon Henning 20mcg T3 from Germany is only 31 euro for 100 tablets plus p&p

Prescription needs to read

100 x 20mcg Liothyronine

Alternatively if you have prescription for 25mcg Liothyronine you may be able to get French Sanofi T3 via local pharmacies at similar prices to German Thybon Henning

All UK Liothyronine is 20mcg
