T3..where to buy Ireland?: Hi just wondering if... - Thyroid UK
T3..where to buy Ireland?
Pamzz
Did you doctor not suggest anywhere?
Here is ThyroidUK's page about where to order thyroid replacement hormone, including T3, when you have a prescription

He did suggest pharmacy in south of Ireland but they don’t deliver. Will try my local pharmacy and see if they can order it in. Thanks for your help
It will be a lot cheaper from Germany.
My script is for 5mcg..looks like theirs is only 20mg
If you can get your prescription changed to the correct wording, you could cut the 20mcg pills.
If you specifically want 5mcg then I'm afraid I don't know. You could put a new post up with details of obtaining 5mcg T3 with prescription in the title to grab the attention of anyone else who uses this dose.
If you want to order from Germany the prescription needs to read
Liothyronine 20mcg x 100 tablets
31 Euro plus p&p
See info about Bennewitz
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...
UK based T3 will cost just over £9.21 per tablet - about £920 for 100 tablets
UK Liothyronine 20mcg is in boxes of 28 at £258 per box
Hence the difficulty getting NHS prescription
Most of us who use 20mcg have to cut it into 5mcg or 10mcg doses. It's easy using a small craft scalpel
Just seen on your profile you have Hashimoto's
What were you latest TSH, FT3 and FT4. Dose of Levothyroxine should be high enough to bring TSH down to around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range
75mcg was not a high dose.
Low vitamins are extremely common with Hashimoto's. They need testing and ideally supplement to bring to optimal BEFORE start any T3
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Always get actual results and ranges. Post results when you have them, members can advise
Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels. Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working. That includes T3
Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten.
According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
Is this how you do your tests?
Once also on T3, make sure to take last dose exactly 12 hours prior to test
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
