These were the results of my recent T3/T4/TSH Tests... lab results T3 1.3, T4 9, TSH 1.58...
I am exhausted all the time... Horrible trouble losing weight... Facial Hair... Thinning Hair... Foggy Head... But from what I can tell it looks like my labs are normal?... So why am I feeling so horrible?... I was told a few years ago my Thyroid was borderline for treatment... Does your thyroid just fix itself overtime?... I just am not understanding my results...
Hi - I know just how you feel. Exhaustion and fatigue are common symptoms with hypo.
If your T3 is 1.3 (normal 3.1-6.8) and T4 is 9 (normal 66-181 for T4 and 12-22 for free T4) and TSH is 1.58 (normal 0.47-4.2) is shows T3 and T4 are very low requiring medication while TSH is acceptable.
I defer to the far more seasoned members to make suggestions - as I would have expected TSH to be much higher with those levels?
It can be misleading to offer general reference ranges for lab test results, since they may vary considerably from the actual reference ranges used by the particular lab producing the results; and may even be different units of measurement. Using the general reference ranges you've provided, the poster's FT3 and FT4 levels would each appear to be below their respective range; whereas when judged against the actual reference ranges both levels are well within range, and just above, and above midway in range, respectively - so very different from being below range.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances are very common too, especially gluten. So it's important to get TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once .
It is very, very rare for the thyroid to just fix itself, I'm afraid.
Ok so the lab ranges are as follows:
T3 1.3 result. Range 0.7-1.7
T4 9 result. Range 4.0-11.0
TSH result 1.58. Range 0.50-6.0
HI Kri. This could be secondary hypothyroidism so a pituarity problem. You are not producing enough TSH which comes from your pituarity gland. Hvae a chat with pituaritary foundation and ask where to be refferred for furthur assessment. IF you GP claims to be happy with these results then change GP el prompto. YOu might also want to get tested ferritin, B12, vit D and folate. Having enough of these can help improve symptoms. The treatment of secondary hypo is the same as for any kind of hypothyroid symptoms, a little better even as cannot be led by tSH results and is led by symtom relief.Youare quite poorly, bless. Getting good treatment for any kind of thyroid issue in uk is a struglle and many of us choose to treat ourselves. There is a list availble via the website of more helpful doctors.Paying to see someone privately is another option. Keep comming back to us.
Please do get your B12 and Cortisol tested and look at the possibility of Cushings too My daughter had very similar symptoms, particularly facial hair, was told it would not be Cushings as it is so rare. But it was as it has been for many others. Be good to know it isn’t that but after treatment she is now much better. pituitarysociety.org/patien...
