Vitamins and how to take them

Hi everyone, I have posted several times and would like to ask, I gave Hashimotos Thyroiditis and still not on Levo as Drs are watching and waiting, my TSH is 4.75 Ft3 and Ft4 within range but antibodies are rising now at 703. I am now taking the following supplements but not sure what to take with what and when.

Omega3

Selenium

Magnesium

Vit D3

Vit K2 MK7

Iron

B12 tablets

Vit C

B100 Complex

I have just started Slippery Elm.

Digestive Enzymes not started yet

Ceased Lansoprazole a few weeks ago, hoping Slippery Elm will help with acid reflux.

I have been taking them all after tea but dont think I should be.

Could anyone please advise.

It's best to incorporate them in slowly so you know what works and what doesn't work. Omega 3, Vit D (if you don't get enough sun), B12, B complex and digestive enzymes are the ones that can be taken in low doses relatively safely without testing them first as people with Hashimoto's tend to be deficient in them, but I would highly recommend you test them as it's good to know your levels and how much to dose. Iron should be taken as far away from Levo as possible (like 6 hours after), vit d should be taken during the day so you can sleep well at night, everything else should be taken 4 hours after levo. And you shouldn't have caffeine with your meds. Also it doesn't matter if your T4 and T3 are within range, it could still mean you're undermedicated. Do you still eat gluten?

Thank you, my Drs don't think my symptoms are to do with my thyroid because TSH and FT3 and FT4 are in range. Two months ago my FT4 fell below range so she put me on Levo 25mcg, I had awful side effects from them, hot flushes and bad headaches tried two brands then she took me off them and requested more bloods Ft4 was back in range so that was it.I have been gluten and soy free for 14 months, the supplements listed I have been taking for 12 months apart from slippery elm and digestive enzymes which are new. The D3, iron, & B12 are on prescription as levels were low, the others I take to help feel better. Still struggle with symptoms and tiredness, weight and generally off. Dr has given me Fluoxitine Antidepressants but not started them as yet not sure they will help but Drs won't be happy when I go back to her if I don't take prescribed meds but I still think the issue is the Hashimotos and Thyroid.

Not sure what else to do now.

what are your t4 and t3 levels if you don't mind telling me? How are your stress levels? are you managing them as well as your adrenals?

When you say Vit D during day so you can sleep. How does it effect sleep i take mine 1st thing in morning with thyroxine and all other meds

well if you take vitamin d during the evening it can affect the quality of your sleep because it affects your melatonin levels which plays a part in your circadian rhythm. With hashimoto's some of us struggle to sleep anyway so I try to prevent the possibility of disrupted sleep as much as possible

Apart from vit C - which you can take with anything - everything needs to be at least two hours away from iron.

Vit D and Vit K2 need to be taken with fat of some kind.

Magnesium is often best taken in the evening, if it makes you sleepy.

Have you been tested to see if you have high or low stomach acid? Most GPs assume reflux is only caused by high acid levels. The sphincter at the top of the stomach is acid sensitive so if acid levels are low it does not shut tightly and you get reflux (which is still strong enough to burn). Google the bicarb test, yu take a spoonful of bicarb in water and wait to see how long it takes to belch, if it is very quick it is high if it is too long it is low (cant remember the numbers sorry). Many hypos have low which is why we end up with deficiencies as it prevents proper absorption.

If you are low a betain hlc capsule or spoonful of applecider vinegar with meals may help until they get your thyroid under control.

Both magnesium and iron block the absorption of other nutrients and i was advised to leave 4 hours after taking them before taking anything else. As spacing can become tricky you might want to consider alternative forms like spray magnesium or sublingual vits, it can make life easier and avoid wasting cash by not absorbing!

Your TSH is 4.75?!!! That is still HIGH for most people with Hashis, whatever the reference ranges say. I was having the same symptoms when mine was just under 3 as when it was over 4 and it was a miracle I got the increase of Levothyroxine (it was obvious by the symptoms I needed it, whatever the blood test showed).
