I've been on NDT since about the end of June of this year. I started out with 1 grain and am now on 1 1/2 grain. We are talking about 4 months. I initially started with a tsh of 3.6(.4-4.5) free t3 1.8 (2.3-4.0) and free t4 .8 (.8-1.8). My PCP had me do bloodwork on 09/13/18. He only test for tsh and free t4. My tsh was 2.1 and my free t4 was .9. ..same range as above. My functional Doctor had me do bloodwork on 10/04/18 as I'd been having a lot of hypo and hyper symptoms. This is my latest bloodwork; TSH 5.73(.4-4.5) Free T3 2.7(2.3-4.2) Free T4 .5(.8-1.8) Iron 66(45-160) b12 650(200-1100) Ferritin 86(10-232) Vitamin D3 33(30-100..was 47 but I stopped taking for 2 weeks to see if it was causing a reaction I was having and it wasn't , so started retaking) Cortisol AM 12.4(4-22). I will be taking adrenal saliva test next week as my functional Doc thinks it's my adrenal. I'm coming to the experts !!!! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON ? PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS !!!!!!!!
What's going on with My Levels !!!!!: I've been... - Thyroid UK
What's going on with My Levels !!!!!
Hold on a sec, so your doctors think these results are ok? You’re too low- TSH over the range and T3 barely in. You need a dose increase not saliva test I’d say.
Do you have high antibodies?
How do you take your NDT? Do you take it on an empty stomach, leaving at least one hour before eating or drinking anything other than water? Do you take any other medication or supplements at the same time?
I take my NDT in the morning on an empty stomach and give myself an hour before taking or eating anything else.
Greygoose,, I have no antibodies.
And do you always do your tests at the same time of day - early morning and fasting?
I don't think my body reacts well to NDT. I was so hoping but I'll never get my sleeplessness under control if my levels keep fluctuating like this. I've never had an issue with Synthroid, I just think that patients should have an option to try all the thyroid medication that are available without issue from the doctors. I think I will go back on Synthroid along with the T3 after my new endo's appt which is next week.
Well, you know, you could still have Hashi's, even if the antibodies are negative. Were your levels more stable on Synthroid? It is rather peculiar but I don't see how it could be the fault of NDT.
I was diagnosed with Graves and then had RAI. I'm much more stable on Synthroid..over 30 years. I take 11/1 grain of NDT. What would be the equivalent in Synthroid and can I start taking it right away and do I have to wait a certain time before taking it. Thank you for responding.
OK, I didn't know that, sorry.
Do you mean 1 1/2 grains of NDT? That would be about 100 mcg Synthroid by my calculations. But, it's impossible to know exactly, because it depends how well you convert. You'll just have to try it and see. It's all trial and error, anyway.
yes that's what I meant. I will start with 100mcg Synthroid and 10 of T3 and see what my lab shows in about 6 weeks.
I'm on 2 grains of Armour Thyroid (no thyroid) and my TSH bottoms out on the lab scale and my Ft4 is also on the low end of my labs and my T3 is also on the low end....My Endo tells me I'm going to get heart disease and crumbling bones. Sigh.
I feel less tired when I started splitting my 2 grains vs. Taking them one time.
Sorry I've no answers for you.....just a question : Do you take the 1 1/2 grain at same time in the morning? I've started my NDT at 1/2 a grain on 23rd September and need to increase soon but wonder if to take the increase all at same time in the morning till I reach 1 grain on an empty stomach in morning then the additional increases about 6 hrs later ? What are your thought here ? Maybe I'll start my own thread....Thanks
