Im on day 7 of Thiroyd by Greater Pharma. Somehow im not feeling any difference. I was previously taking Levo 50 mcg. Ive read that Thiroyd has a sweet papaya-like taste. When i took it, it didnt taste sweet. is it really supposed to taste sweet? when can i start seeing good results while taking Thiroyd?
Tablets of thyroid hormones are to be taken with one full glass of water, as they could stick in your throat if not. Neither are they made to be crushed in the mouth.
You were taking 50mcg of levo previously, which is a starting dose so a low dose which, usually, is increased by 25mcg every six weeks until symptoms are relieved.
1 grain of NDT is approx 100mcg of levo so it may take longer than 7 days for you to feel an improvement. Also you can increase by 1/4 tablet every two weeks, keeping note of pulse/temp and if either go too high, reduce to previous dose.
Maybe im just being too excited to get good results. I am just too sick waking up with very bad joint pains. I will be increasing my dosage to a half grain next week.. i will gladly update this post for any improvemnt noticed
How are you doing on Thiroyd now? I have just started taking it. How many grains are you taking? I was on 100mcg of levothyroxine but now taking 50mcg of levothyroxine and half a grain. All well apart from bloating ☹. I intend to drop the levothyroxine and increase to 1 grain of Thiroyd
I week is not time to expect anything as the medication needs to build up in your body. Can you tell us more to be able to help you as to dose you are taking and how you are managing the changeover?
Did you ask advice before you decided to do this? You were only on a starter dose for Levo and may be you should have looked at whether your dose needed increasing or you weren't converting well. These two reasons are common factors which can make individuals feel Levo is failing them when often it is mismanagement by doctors who aren't giving you the best advice.
So have you a recent reading on Levo we can look at as well and have you ever had Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin tested? The minerals and vitamins need to be in place whatever kind of treatment you take as they help your thyroid work better and also need to be sorted as sometimes that can hinder progress on T3 and NDT as well.
My GP only had me in 25 mcg of levo. 3 weeks into that dose and i still feel very sick. So i decided for myself to increase it to 50 mcg. My GP is not into the idea of increasing my dose because she said my blood result is perfectly normal. I know for myself that im not okay so i decided to increase my dosage. Almost a month in 50 mcg of levo and things are turning worst; muscle pain, hair loss, tons of weight gain. So, i then switched to Thiroyd. I will give it a few more weeks to check for any improvement..

You were advised to get full testing of thyroid and vitamins to see what was happening
50mcg is only a starter dose. Most patients need somewhere between 100mcg and 200mcg. slowly increasing dose in 25mcg steps, retesting 6-8 weeks after each increase, until TSH is around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range
It's likely you have terrible vitamin levels, after 4 years of inadequate treatment. No thyroid hormones work well if vitamins are too low
Suggest you ask GP for vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 testing ASAP. Or order private testing
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, take last dose 24 hours prior to test, and take next dose straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If on T3, or NDT make sure to take last dose 12 hours prior to test

No thyroid hormone will work properly unless vitamins and minerals are at optimal levels. Presumably you didn't test them after it was suggested in your last thread. Your joint pains and hair loss previously mentioned could very well be down to low levels or deficiencies.
Best thing to do is get them tested now, a full thyroid panel and vitamins and minerals, then you will have a complete picture and can start helping yourself.

Lots of good advice about. Vitamins are a good place to start as other things will probably improved as well. But whichever treatment you follow you must be more patient as things move very slowly with the thyroid. I know as we all are, we want to feel better more quickly but it doesn't work like that and if we try to speed it up we can't but it undoes the work we can have done to the point and may be have to start again slowing us even more. My doctor told me to stop taking vitamins and knows nothing about the thyroid-at least she admitted it! But on my last visit she asked if I wanted anything testing! So as I had t even had time to think I suggested that each year to test Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin. It's a pity she didn't comment on the results but miracles take longer! So whatever you decide to do stick to it and keep posting your results and asking questions. It's the best way to learn as well. Personally if I was you I would stick with Levo. It's easier to manage and understand whilstcyoubare still trying to work out what you body is telling you. The main big advantage is it shows you if you are converting well and you can't tell this if you are taking anything with T3 in it. If you aren't converting well, and it's a frequent problem you aren't going to feel well. To help conversation you need to treat the 4 things I and others have suggested and it there's a problem, there often is, then you will need to supplement as many of us do to feel well. Again this takes time, took me around 5 months butvit can vary depending how low things are so yes testing vitamins etc is very important and a good place to start. It may also get rid or at least improve some of your other symptoms as well. If vitamins arc are low that could stop you improving if you want to take NDT or add in T3 to your Levo. So patience and get things in the right order and you will improve.
