Changing to thiroyd by Greater Pharma.

Hello Everyone - I am new here. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 19 yrs ago. I got fed up recently putting on a half stone in weight every year, developing high blood pressure, getting Levothyroxine raised to 175mcgs. Seemed like deterioration to me - time for a change. I am now on my 4th day of one grain of Thiroyd, no Levo. When do you think I should increase the dose? Also, should I continue taking my favourite supplements like Vit D, B Complex and Adrenal Extra? Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

hi michelle

I'm on day 5 like yourself I decided enough was enough on levothyroxine and ordered thiroyd. I cant wait for the next raise but have decided to wait for the two weeks after reading stop the thyroid madness book. how are you feeling on ndt? I'm no worse but still have a wee worry at the back of my mind because I bought it online but I will carry on regardless.

hope you are doing well.

Don't worry I've been using Thiroyd for nearly a year now & have been stable on 21/2 for ages.

I followed the raise by 1/2 after 2 weeks then after the next raise wait 3-4 weeks before next raise.

I did a lot of research about the Thiroyd before getting mine off a FaceBook site.

Bought a tub of 1000 & will definitely use these from now on.

Hi there.

If you have read/are reading Stop the Thyroid Madness, she gives a pretty comprehensive list of NDT's out there and has researched them for us. Thiroid comes from a reputable pharmaceutical company. I have been on it for some time now and am up to 3. I started on 1 and took it up slowly at 1/2 every 2 weeks. If I got the shakes, palpitations etc, I took it down by 1/4 and slowly worked up again. No side effects and I feel good. I am waiting for blood results to see how it is going. Initially, my TSH rose and the fT3 and fT4 fell, but I had only been on it for 6 weeks at that stage. I tend not to take any notice of the TSH reading and go on how I feel. My weight started falling and it is coming off steadily without depriving myself. I eat normally. A friend of mine has lost over 22 lbs now but she is on a gluten and dairy-free diet.

thank you. I am 20lbs heavier than i've ever been in my life so I knew that levo wasn't working. I am cheered by your experience. thanks again and have a good day

Better I increased to quickly. Have managed to stay at 1.5 grains but yesterday foolishly increased to 2 and omg I felt awful last night, head was swimming and I felt all dizzy. Back to 1.5 today split 1 am and .5 pm, and will increase to 1.75 next week split.

Yes do it, it’s not an easy ride, or at least it hasn’t been for me, but there is always someone able to offer advice and support. Just start slowely.

What have been the down points? Have you thought about trying some of the other brands?

I’ve been on various levels of thyroxine for 18 years, so I don’t know if that’s why I haven’t found it as easy a switch as others? The first week I felt amazing but that me be as I still had levo in the system and then the added bonus of the t3? Week two I upped my dose by half a grain and gosh by day 10 I felt awful, super exhausted the worst mood swings I felt so irritable and was just not a nice person, I reduced my dose and by 1/4 grain and by week 3 I was feel much more human again, when I recently upped again to 1.5 that was ok, but I am splitting the dose, and when I foolishly upped to 2 grains I felt light headed and spaced out, very dizzy, so am back down to 1.5 and will increase to 1.75 next week. I must just be very sensitive, or perhaps I am now nearing optimal that the jump to 2 grains is too much. I was on 100/75 alternated levo before switching. On the plus side I have lots more energy during the day ( all be that I’m still asleep by 10pm) and I have way less brain fog and bloating. They are my most noticeable improvements I am sure there are others. I will get to a dose and stick with that for a couple of months and then consider trying a different brand of I don’t feel optimal. But I think I should be ok on this brand. Trouble is they come in packs of 1000 so it’s a lot to commit to and then want to change isn’t it.

It sounds generally pretty positive. I have found somewhere that sells in 250’s and 500’s as well- I can message you the details?

As fitzy says, follow the guidelines on STTM, and yes, keep taking the vitamins etc.

I don't think that you need worry about buying online from GP.

Can I just thank you all for taking the time to reply! So good to know that people have done well on thiroyd! People in work think I'm bonkers buying tablets from Thailand!!!! I am on day 5 now and feeling okay - the niggling doubts at the back of my mind have been dispelled by some of the comments here, so once again, thanks! And best wishes to everyone on this journey!
