My doctor kindly ordered new blood tests and these are the result.

TSH level 1.3 mU/L (0.27 - 4.2)

free T4 level 14.6 pmol/L (11.0 - 22.0)

C reactive protein level < 1 mg/L (0.0 - 5.0)

Cholesterol level 8.6 mmol/L

HDL cholesterol level 1.9 mmol/L (>1.1)

Cholesterol/HDL ratio 4.5

Non high density lipoprotein cholesterol level 6.7 mmmol/L

Vit B12 level 943 ng/L (197.0 - 771.0) above high reference limit.

Ferritin level 111 ug/L (30.0 - 260.0)

Folate level 19.2 ug/L (>3.9)

Fasting sample preferred. Recent folate intake may mask deficiency. Serum folate results are unreliable for patients on Methotrexate. I did fast and I am not on Methotrexate.

Iron & % Saturation.

Iron Level 20.1 umol/L (5.8 - 34.5)

Transferrin level 2.56 g/L (2.0 - 3.6)

Transferrin saturation index 31% (15.0 - 50.0)

The result said Borderline and No Further Action.

Cortisol level 435 nmol/L (133.0 - 537.0) Ref range only samples taken between 6-10am

Follicle stimulating hormone level 148.0 IU/L

FSH Reference Ranges (IU/L): Follicular 3.5 - 12.5 , mid-cyle 4.7 - 21.5, Luteal 1.7 - 7.7 , post-menopausal 25.8 - 134.8

Serum LH level 64.4 IU/L

LH Reference ranges (IU/L): follicular 2.4 - 12.6, midcycle 14.0 - 96.6, luteal 1.0 - 11.4, post menopausal 7.7 - 58.5

Prolactin level 198 mIU/L (102.0 - 496.0)

These results were all stated to be Normal.

I also received a letter from my doctor stating that she is concerned about me self-treating which I can understand. She does need to put it in writing to protect herself. Her concerns are if I over treat myself. Also concerns about me having atrial fibrillation, stroke, osteoporosis, (I have osteopeania) - wish I could spell it! and other conditions which are life threatening and could result in death - if I over-medicate. Call me stubborn, but I feel the need to help myself, and if it doesn't work out at least I will have tried. With so many kind folk on this forum to help, I feel very positive. Thank you for reading and best wishes to you all.

Are these results since you started taking NDT and have you noticed any improvement?

If on NDT, did you take last dose 12 hours before blood draw?

How much are you currently taking?

You will need to get TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested after 6-8 weeks on constant dose

Good morning SlowDragon. No, I didn't start taking NDT until afterwards, in fact last Thursday was the first time and I cut the tablet in half. Too early to see improvement I think as I am going slowly and carefully. Yes, I will get the necessary tests done after 6 - 8 weeks. Thank you for your reply.

Hello SlowDragon. I am wondering if I have given you enough information. I am on Thyroid-S 60 mg, so I am taking 30 mg.

Those results showed free t4 was too low, so you needed a dose increase. Plus iron a bit low, so eat some liver. No free t3, so not really possible to tell what's going on. High cholesterol pretty much confirms undermedication.

Thank you for your help. I only started medication 3 nights ago, so I am really hoping that my cholesterol does come down over time. I will certainly try and get my iron levels up as well. Best wishes.
