So I did a follow up thyroid check privately. My results are:

THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE *0.007 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.20

FREE THYROXINE *35.800 pmol/L 12.00 - 22.00

FREE T3 *10.2 pmol/L 3.10 - 6.80

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY <10 IU/mL 0.00 - 115.00

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 10.4 IU/mL 0.00 - 34.00

Im not sure if this is related but I have B12 levels, which seems off because Im vegan and I don't take any supplement.

ACTIVE B12 *169.000 pmol/L 25.10 - 165.00

My doctor still wants me to take Carbimazole. Any advice?

It has to be your decision, but your thyroid levels are quite substantially elevated.

You haven’t had TRAb or TSI tested, so you still can’t be sure that you have your hyperactive thyroid is definitely Graves’. Hopefully this will be checked when you see an endo (have you been referred yet ?). If it isn’t Graves’ the main issue could be that your thyroid might recover quite quickly, and you could end up shooting straight through the range until your thyroid levels are in the hypo range. This is normally resolved quite simply by reducing the Carbimazole, so it’s really important that you get regular blood tests - typically every 4-6 weeks You need FT3 (because this can remain high even if FT4 isin range ), FT4 and TSH.

I refused carbimozole 15 years ago and slowed down my thyroid by diet (I have now been vegan for 38 years) my heart rate was 100 at rest at the start - I then added foods to my diet which slowed my thyroid down wholegrain stoneground bread (Cranks) lots of soya and green vegetables. Within 6 months I never needed their carbimozole - my only error which I regret was I should have realised that when my heartrate resumed to 60 at rest I should have cut back on those foods, but I never did and I swung to being hypothyroid where I have been for sometime, they now keep suggesting thyroxin which I am refusing as I feel reasonably well and want to try to diet regime again. I am now removing soya, cutting back dramatically on the wheat and millet it out (not the greens though I am just eat them cooked and not raw anymore) and my weight is slowly starting to go down again so hopefully I am swinging back again. This time I will make sure I keep an eye on things I was busy before working long hours to do voluntary work on top of a full time job. I am seeing a plant based diet nutritionist tomorrow and hope she can give me sound advice on what foods to add/remove to tackle this without drugs.
