Hi all

I have recently persuaded by docs to perform the following tests but I could do with some help interpreting them please.

TSH - 0.52 miu/L (0.2 - 4.0)

FT4 -20.2pmol/L (10 - 20)

T3 - 1.5 nmol/L (0.9 - 2.5)

Ferritin - 25ug/L (10 - 322)

Thyroid antibodies - >1300 iu/ml

Vit B12 - 517 ng/L (211 - 911)

Vit D - 57nmol/L (75 - 250)

Zinc - 10.2 umol/L (9.8 - 17.9)

Any help is appreciated 😊

Sorry, we need the ranges for all that. Results without ranges are meaningless because they vary from lab to lab.

Also, tell us what you're taking and how much, because that affects the way the labs are interpreted. :)

Apologies, I’ll have a look online to get the ranges, I’m on 100 Levo atm but am planning on switching to NDT, I just want to get my levels in a good space to get the best out of it....

Where on-line? Can you access the lab where the tests were done?

No - I can access my patient records through my doctors surgery...

But are you sure that they've used the same lab, and that the ranges haven't changed?

It gave me the ranges in brackets just after the result - I just forgot to write them down 🙈

ah, ok! Well, we always, always need the ranges. :)

Ranges added in brackets

So, you have Hashi's, and a conversion problem.

The over-range antibodies say you have Hashi's - did you know that?

And, like many Hashi's people, the FT4 and FT3 tell me you have a conversion problem, as the FT4 is slightly over-range, but the FT3 is not quite mid-range. So, yes, you either need to change to NDT, or add T3 to your levo.

Your ferritin is much, much too low - should be around mid-range. Vit D should be up around 100. Zinc is also low. Most hypos have low zinc and high copper, so the zinc only needs supplementing. :)

No, no one has ever mentioned I might have Hashi’s. The most I’ve been offered is Vit D and ferritin supplements which I was given a 3 month supply of about 6 month ago and told to crack on basically. I’ve been on the Levo dose for 6.5 years now and have felt subsequently worse year on year to the point where I have literally no energy, no sex drive and at least 3 stone of extra weight which seems to increase no matter what I try ! Would you suggest I go back to the docs or self-medicate on the zinc, Vit D and Ferritin in conjunction with starting NDT ?

If i were you, I'd self-medicate with those nutrients BEFORE you go on to NDT. You won't get on at all well with NDT with those low nutrients.

But, yes, self-treat. Doctors have no knowledge and no understand of nutrition.

For Hashi's, you should try a 100% gluten-free diet. It would possibly make you feel better, and could reduce the antibodies. You also want to get your TSH down to zero - which will be easier with NDT.

Selenium would be another good thing to supplement with, plus magnesium, vit C (taken with iron) and vit K2 - MK7. But, don't start all those things at once! Leave at least two weeks between starting each one. If I were you, I would start with the iron + vit C - four hours away from thyroid hormone, and two hours away from all other supplements. Then, add in the vit D - four hours away from thyroid hormone. All the other supplements should be at least two hours away from thyroid hormone. :)

Thanks - I’ll try that - any recommendations as to where to get the supplements ? I assume a ‘multi vitamin’ won’t cut it in terms of getting my levels up ?

No, a multi-vit won't cut it for many reasons. Most of us buy your supplements on Amazon. Good choice and good prices. :)

Hi greygoose, quick q - I’ve started on 2,000iu of vit D a day - is this high enough given how low my levels are ?
