2nd blood results after starting Levo 50mcg, advice on what is happening before seeing my GP.

Morning,

Can anyone give me advice on my March 18 and April 18 results to see what is happening before I see my GP on Monday.

As many of you are aware from my previous posts, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's by a private Endo, a scan also confirmed this.

Anyway, to cut a very long story short and after a number of visits and hundred of pounds later said nothing he could do to help and no medication would help me either.

I started to go down hill fast and went to see my allocated GP. Bloods were taken in March 2018 and here are the results: I am on no medication at all, other than vitamins, iron selenium etc.

March 2018 (taken 8.30am)

TSH 12.2 (0.27-4.5)

Free T4 10.2 (11.0-23.0)

Serum free triiodothyronine 4.12 (3.1-6.8)

serum thyroid peroxidase antibodies 160 (<34.0)

With those results GP started me on 50mcg of Levothyroxine for fours weeks and told me to have another blood test for an increase in dosage.

Please see my latest blood results, (they were taken at 8.30am, stopped Levo for 24 hours)

April 2018

TSH 4.1 (0.27-4.5)

Free T4 14.2 (11.0-23.0)

Serum free triiodothyronine 4.51 (3.1-6.8)

I am still freezing cold, feel spaced out, very anxious, don't feel refreshed in the mornings, despite sleeping through the night.

I am very ratty and VERY angry, this is a new symptom that has appeared.

I think it's the make of tablets, as I am on TEVA. I picked this make as Lactose free. After doing further research it appears I am not the only one with similar side effects.

It's terrible, my poor hubby, he was brave enough to tell me I was angry all the time and off course I bit his head off for pointing this out!!!!

The only thing that has disappeared is my neck stiffness and my energy levels are better.

I take the tablet in the morning an hour and half before breakfast.

I am going to change the make of levo when the doctor give me a new dosage. I presume he will increase it by 25mcg = 75mcg.

I've already been going into some chemist about the make of Levo as I may need 75mcg, they said I would have a mixture of makes to make the 75mcg dose.

I've not managed to find anyone that stocks Wockhardt, this seems to have positive results (I appreciate everyone is different) when I phoned them directly they said to get the chemist to contact them to supply it. I know for a fact that will not happen as costs.

One chemist does Mercury Pharma, the rest at the moment is only Teva.

I am gluten and dairy free as shown an intolerance to both, but, if I have to change brands I will have to have lactose in it as presume a small amount.

I have stopped taking Vitamin D and B12 as another GP within the surgery had a fit at me as high, but, I want to start again on a small dosage of Vitamin D as don't want it to go low again.

Best Wishes

This is a previous post and quite a few members found the change in the Teva affected them due to the reformulation.

You could ask the local pharmacists to source the make of levo you want. Even if you have to split a tablet to get the dose you need I think that may be better than two different ones. If you had a problem you wouldn't know which one was causing it.

This is another past post.

The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower and a FT4 and FT3 towards the upper part of the range. That's why you don't feel so good at present.

Do you have the ranges of B12 and Vit D. As far as I know excess B12 is excreted in urine.

This is an excerpt from the following link:

Fortunately not. Overdosing on vitamin B12 is almost impossible, since the body simply excretes the unnecessary extra amounts. However, it is also important not to overdo it, as this excess amount is excreted through the kidneys; representing a moderate, albeit typically manageable burden.

In general, it is typically recommended to cover the body’s daily requirement by taking a small dosage of vitamin B12 daily, rather than taking huge quantities of B12 ‘in advance’. Even for those suffering from malabsorption, an oral dose of around 500 µg will typically suffice for covering the RDA – higher doses are only really necessary in the therapeutic milieu.

Hi Shaws

Results of vitamin D & B12 March 2018.

Vitamin D 175 nmol/L

Vitamin B12 1091 (197.0-771.0)

Told by my GP to stop straight away, she had at fit at me saying it was toxic.

I have not taken any since March 2018. I did order a low dosage of Vitamin D as a top up 800iu, but,as the GP said high I have not started taking them. I don't want the levels to be low again as I know all the vitamins help thyroid issues.

A blood test showed kidney function slightly out of range, I was going to the toilet a lot so presumed it was the B12?. I had a word with GP and they said not an issue.

I don't smoke or drink alcohol and not over weight and I'm active.

I did ask a chemist about ordering a certain make and they said no not possible.

Best Wishes

Just pick up real paper prescription from surgery and then ring or visit various pharmacies until you find one who has brand you want to try, or is willing to order it in,

Small independent pharmacies are often much more helpful. Large chains will not supply anything they don't stock.
