Hi everyone, My name is Dave and i've posted once before... but i will post again today just some of what i am doing and what is gong on with me... thyroid cancer patient

I am a Canadian resident in Ottawa,47 years old..... I have access to ERFA (NDT) which I started dec29th 2017 so just less than 3 months ago... i had two thyroid surgeries october 2016 and july 2017... second surgery damaged my parathyroids (producing pth but low still) right side was 1.9cm at 1st surgery left side was only 0.6cm. to be honest...i should have never done the second surgery until many years later... i am in worse shape 8 months post 2nd surg. than i was 8 months post 1st surgery...i am taking 120mg of ERFA full dose 730am everyday after a 10 hour fast... and water only for one hour post dose. I am in decent shape physically 6'2" 216lbs. so the dose works for me. All my symptoms from synthroid are pretty much gone... i do find by 6 or 7pm i am quite tired .. i believe a nap around 3 seems to help if i can squeeze it in... i am taking b12, thyrocsin (mid day) green shakes heavy on the spinach, try to eat a decent amount of food daily , also taking 3:1 ratio of magnesium to calcium (corrected a week ago which helped my PTH symptoms as well)..lots of vit c soucres. vit A, K2 and i have tried adding in Iodine, regualr iodine doesn't seem to do much, but 1 drop of Lugols a few times a week seems to make me feel better... Staying active and getting sleep, seem to be the 2 most important factors aside from a healthy diet of course, these all seem to balance out... on such a high dose of ERFA i noticed if i don't eat enough... i do get tired... anyway.. this is where i am at.. no crampy legs from Synthroid, no foggyness, and generally seem to feel better for sure... questions? or additions ?

DaveHunt13,

Have you had a thyroid function test since being on 120mg Erfa to check dose is sufficient? It's not a high dose for someone without a thyroid and undermedication may be why you need an afternoon nap.

What are you taking Thyrogen for? I thought Thyrogen was given by injection to stimulate TSH?

I would quit the iodine unless you have tested deficient. Iodine is anti-thyroid and reduces T4 and T3 and increases TSH.

As you are hypoparathyroid do you also supplement or monitor vitamin D along with calcium?

so sorry...thyrocsin** presribed by my Naturo... i edited my comment as it was early when i wrote that))... I think most people feel a daily nap around that time... i was napping quite steady for 10 years when i traveled for work.. could be more habitual..or just as humans a nap (and i mean a real nap 20 minutes or less).. just to refresh... i'm not lagging or feeling i "need one" per say.. but a nap is healthy from all the research anyway...i have had bloodtests done of course... i am using all my resources not doing this alone or by guessing.. my Naturopath and GP are on the job....... dose was upped to 120mg last time as my T3 was fine but T4 and energy was off..... and another being done tomorrow actually to check levels again (unfortunately i was sick last bloodwork and my TSH showed high))... so we shall see if they are better... i do take Vit D3 as well...... and good note for the iodine... will stop that... i do research for my supps and take quality brands,, thanks Clutter!! i will update friday
