Vitamin and Thyroid Results.

Hi

I changed back to levothyroxine from W.P. Thyroid last October, presently taking 125mcg. levo. I did not find very much improvement on W.P. and as there started to problems with getting it I decided to try levo. again with the view of possibly adding T3.

I had my thyroid levels checked seven weeks after going back to levo. with Medichecks and they results were,

7th December 2017 blood taken approx. 24 hours after last dose of levo. and fasted for approx. ten hours.

TSH 0.014 range 0.27 - 4.20

Total Thyroxine 91.4 range 59 - 154

FT4 19.4 range 12.00 - 22.00

FT3 5.04 range 3.10 - 6.80

THYROIDGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 103 range 0 - 115

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 20.8 range 0 - 34.00

I also had some tests done prior to this when I attended the Immunology clinic mid November to investigate eczema and hives I started getting last year.

Blood taken 4.45 p.m.

TSH 0.04 range 0.35 - 4.7

FT4 20 range 7.8 - 21.0

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 8 range 0 - 75

Vitamin D 66.8 (states 55 - 75, maybe suboptimal as it is seasonal, lower in winter, higher in summer, but should be above 50 at all times)

Vitamin B12 677 range 115 - 1000

Folate 7.8 <3

Was feeling O.kish until a few weeks ago then started again with fatigue so went to G.P. who had the thyroid results from Immunology and of course wanted to reduce my dose of levo. because of TSH.

I told him no and showed him my Medicheck results and pointed out T3 level, so he decided I could keep on the same dose and said he would do a few more blood tests to investigate the fatigue.

Just got the results today and was surprise to see my Vitamin B12 had really dropped, it is now 385. I have been taking 2500mcg. daily but do miss the odd day, I also ran out so was not taking any for around ten days before the test. Could this be why the level has dropped so much, or has it dropped because I have gone back to levo. from NDT. and maybe not absorbing it as well.

Another thing I did different was went gluten free for ten weeks in August/September, but as I did not feel any improvement stopped and went back to eating gluten, so was eating it five weeks before the test when B12 was 677.

Now wondering if the drop is causing the fatigue.

Other results,

Ferritin 87 (states 20 - 100 does not exclude iron deficiency) last range went up to 300

Iron 20 range 5 - 31

Folate 12.7 <3

I do supplement with Vit B12 2500mcg.

Vitamin D 2000iu.

Thorne Stress B Complex

Vitamin as Ascorbic Acid 1000mg.

Sorry for long winded post but if anyone could offer any advice it would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Lucylocks,

TSH 0.04 is suppressed and FT4 20 top of range which indicates adequate Levothyroxine dosing. You would have to order a thyroid test with FT3 to see how well you are converting to FT3. FT3 in Dec was just over halfway through range. What was FT3 when you were taking WP?

VitD is replete >75 and optimal 100-150. I would increase dose to 5,000iu for 6 weeks then reduce to 2,000iu daily. Take vitD 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

B12 677 is unlikely to be deficient and Folate is within range.

Ferritin and iron are good.

Hi Clutter,

thank you for replying.

I did have another test with Medichecks which I have mentioned in my post, does this show if I am converting well or not.

TSH 0.014 range 0.27 - 4.20

Total Thyroxine 91.4 range 59 - 154

FT4 19.4 range 12.00 - 22.00

FT3 5.04 range 3.10 - 6.80

THYROIDGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 103 range 0 - 115

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 20.8 range 0 - 34.00

When taking 2 grains of W.P. FT3 was 5.42

As I also mentioned in post B12 was 677 but has now dropped to 384, whilst supplementing.

Thank you.

Lucylocks,

You're not converting very well as TSH is suppressed and FT4 in the upper range but FT3 is only just over halfway through range. It was better when you were taking WP because of the T3 in WP.

Thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Hard to tell whether your B12 dropped because your absorption wasn't so good when you stopped gluten-free or because you stopped supplementing. 2,500mcg is a high dose and raise it from 384.

Many thanks Clutter,

you say Thyroglobulin antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's).

but they are 108 top of the range 115.
