Blood Test - How do they work?

Hi All.

So I'm a transgender FtM whos got a hormone appointment for testosterone upcoming. I need to supply the doctor Im seeing with the follow bloods: "LFTs, lipids, glucose, vitamin D, FBC, LH, FSH, SHBG, oestradiol, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, prostate specific antigen."

As a 17 year old who has no idea how all this stuff works, i have some questions.

1) how can i get a blood test appointment from my GP?

2) are there any costs involved in getting these blood done?

3) can these all be done on one day or will it take multiple appointments?

4) how long will it take to get the results back for the bloods?

You'll have to make an appointment with your GP to discuss the blood tests you need. If the hormone doctor you are seeing is NHS your GP should be agreeable to ordering the blood tests on the NHS. If the hormone doctor is private your GP doesn't have to agree to order the tests on NHS. If that's the case you may be able to order blood tests from Blue Horizon, Medichecks and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

The blood draw can be done at one phlebotomy appointment. Most of the NHS tests should be back within 24-48 hours and you should allow 48 hours for the duty GP to review the results before you try to pick them up, but if vitD has to be sent away for analysis it may take 10-14 days to get the vitD result back.
