My own PSA values over time: 70% drop in just 3 months on Dutasteride and no ADT
After learning that prostate cancer cells only respond to
dihydrotestosterone
(DHT) and
not
to testosterone directly (DHT is made from testosterone), I decided to go on Dutasteride on 12/1/23.

PSA Response From Broccoli Sprout Extract (Sulforaphane) May Due To Just Being Moderate ADT
"Sulforaphane promotes murine hair growth by accelerating the degradation of
dihydrotestosterone
" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26923074/ To me, you might as well be taking low-dose Finasteride and save some money versus buying BROQ. LOL. Not to say Sulforphane may have other benefits.

While testosterone will convert to
dihydrotestosterone
[DHT] in the absence of Avodart, say, DHT is one's friend - until it isn't, imo. As with the vitamin D conversion of 25-D to 1,25-D, the presence of the strong hormone triggers its decay in prostatic cells.

Anyone have a high testosterone after SBRT?
Even though I am still taking Avodart, which I believe can increase Testosterone, because Avodart blocks the conversion of Testosterone to
dihydroTestosterone
, (DHT), that would leave more testosterone because it doesn't get converted to DHT.

Supraphysiological Androgens [SPA] Promote Tumor Suppressive Activity of the AR Through cMYC Repression and Recruitment of the DREAM Complex
“In support of the physiological significance of this MYC repression, we found DHT (
dihydrotestosterone
) treatment of CRPC xenografts could rapidly suppress MYC, a response that may contribute to the efficacy of supraphysiological androgen therapy in CRPC.

Estrogen Receptors
The natural ligand for ERβ is a metabolite of
dihydrotestosterone
[DHT]. While the new paper is only of passing interest to most (if at all), I have posted because mention of estrogen receptors in male tissue is so rare. -Patrick [1] https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36742361/

High intratumoral dihydrotestosterone is associated with antiandrogen resistance in VCaP prostate cancer xenografts in castrated mice
"Using xenografts of VCaP cells we showed that growth of antiandrogen resistant CRPC tumors were characterized by a higher intratumor
dihydrotestosterone
(DHT) concentration than that of treatment responsive tumors."

GPM6B Inhibit PCa Proliferation by Blocking Prostate Cancer Cell Serotonin Absorptive Capacity
These results suggested the potential function of GPM6B as a diagnostic marker of PCa and provided clues for the development of new treatment targets for PCa. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33294057
and Methylprednisolone increase GPM6B expression.

New Data: Finasteride Safely Prevents Prostate Cancer'These Results Are Transformational,' Says Researcher May 20, 2018
Two common androgens are testosterone and the more powerful
dihydrotestosterone
(DHT). 2. Men deficient in an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase type 2 don’t develop an enlarged prostate (also called benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH) or prostate cancer.

5α-Reductase Inhibitors are Associated with Reduced Risk of SARS-COV-2 Infection
[1] Note: 5α-Reductase Inhibitors [5ARIs] - such as Dutasteride [Avodart] - inhibit the conversion of testosterone to
dihydrotestosterone
[DHT]. "SARS-CoV-2 has a disproportionately severe effect on men, suggesting that the androgen pathway plays a role in the disease.

Statins and adrenal androgen levels in prostate cancer: A new twist
However, to place the magnitude of this change in context, a 125% change in serum T levels in hypogonadal men treated with T replacement therapy (baseline 282 ng/dL [9.8 nmol/L]; 6 months, 640 ng/dL [22.2 nmol/L]) was associated with no difference in prostate tissue levels of T and

Another escape pathway is the manufacture of DHT (
dihydrotestosterone
) via the alternate pathway that does not require testosterone, Avodart will inhibit that.
