Has anyone suffering from hair loss due to levothyroxine tried Tirosint. If so has the hair loss stopped and I'd this drug available in the nhs?

Karen154,

Tirosint is levothyroxine.

It is just ordinary levothyroxine made into a "gel cap" - see here:

tirosint.com/

There are all sorts of reasons to think it could have some advantages over levothyroxine tablets but these seem to be in two areas: a very simple formulation less likely to cause issues due to its ingredients and possibly better absorption.

I think your chances of getting Tirosint on the NHS are very slim. Theoretically, you just might be able to use your ordinary NHS prescription to buy Tirosint from a pharmacy in one of the European countries that has it available. However, pharmacies might or might not accept a prescription which was originally intended for tablets to actually be used for gel caps. And you'd have to pay!

Hi, thanks for replying. I probably haven't phased the title very well. Thought it may have been better then the tablet as no fillets or dyes.

Suffering severe hair loss though I'd ask for feed back on other forms of T4 and what I'd available to nhs.

Xxx

Karen154,

Tirosint is an American Levothyroxine gel capsule. It's not licensed for use in the UK and will only be available on NHS if your GP is prepared to write the prescription on a named patient basis.

Is your hair loss due to levothyroxine, or hypothyroidism. I list tons of hair and even though I was on leave it didn't come back until I tried Hair Fix, brilliant in six months had hair growth where I had lost it. Look on the Internet for Hair Fix. Good 🍀

Thank you that's brilliant news. My dermatologist believes the hair loss is due to thyroid function. He said the dose should be changed or the drug. Tried the dose and no difference. I know NHS won't change my drug. Also RT3 positive which be effecting the hair.

But who knows. NHS certainly don't. Dermatologist said to use minoxil 2% but this isn't really helping and my front hair line has got worse.

Xx
