So confused discovered I have an adnexal cyst after MRI. Is DHEA & Oral Progesterone a cause of this? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi,

I'm a 41 year women with Hashimoto's and an Underachieve Thyroid. I've been told my Hashimoto's is in remission now.

I've just had a call from Consultant following an MRI scan I had for my lower back pain. The scan came back clear other than I have an adnexal mass/Cyst near my ovaries. This has obviously alarmed me

I'm being referred for an Ultrasound so I know I will have to wait for this to find out more. However, I changed my whole lifestyle a year ago on the advice of a private Holistic Doctor. I'm on Efra Thyroid 2 x 60mg + 30mg daily, DHEA 20mg daily and oral progesterone lozenges 100mg on days 5-25 of my cycle.

My menstrual cycle has gone to pot. I know I'm peri-menopausal and that this can happen, but it can also be a sign of other issues. I'm bleeding every 19 days and it's very heavy.

I'm taking lots of supplements on my Holistic Doctor's recommendation - Selenium, Iron, NYR Frankincense Intense Beauty Boost, Probiotics, NYR Joint Supplement, Zinc Complex and Vitamin D3.

I'm concerned that the DHEA and Progesterone I've been taking for the last year may have caused the adnexal mass near ovary. I've been taking them to help with my hormone imbalance which my Holistic Doctor has diagnosed and says is making my UAT worse. He suggested taking them would help me in lots of ways because I'm Oestrogen dominant and have very low levels of both testosterone and progesterone.

I've contacted my GP for a call back, but next appointment with her is 14th November. I'm going to email my Private Holistic Doctor as well, but he takes about a week to come back to me as he works part-time

Does anyone have any knowledge about this please? I'd really appreciate any input or advice anyone has?

Thank you.

Franniebabes,

I think it highly unlikely taking DHEA or Progesterone would cause cysts.

Most common causes for adnexal masses in premenopausal women are follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts. Abscesses can form as a complication of pelvic inflammatory disease. Other masses include endometriomas, polycystic ovaries, and benign neoplasms.

Thank you for your reply Clutter. I've not googled it because I feared I would unravel into long searches that would freak me out so I appreciate you looking it up on Wikipedia.
