List of items taking daily:

Morning: 20-25 minutes before breakfast

- Liothyronine - 25mcg

- Brintellix - 20mg

Evening: 10pm

- birth control pill

- daily multivitamin

- 2 fish oil salmon pills

- 210 mg ferrous fumerate

- 1000mg vitamin C

- 5000 IU vitamin D (to be reduced to 2000 after 6 weeks)

- 375mg magnesium oxide

- 5bn probiotics

I would appreciate guidance on if the above is being taken at the optimal time??? Comments and suggestions are welcome :)

It might be better to take everything at once at night time since this would make admin wise easier and it would be 2/3 hours post eating so her stomach would be almost completely empty.

[[[Background:

My wife has recently been prescribed 25mcg of Liothyronine to be taken once a day.

She is also treating a vitamin D insufficiency and optimizing her iron levels. Also she is taking an atypical antidepressant really new and unknown in the UK called Brintellix (vortioxetine - it works really well for me and for her for over a year now) and the birth control pill]]]

Tadpolefarm.

For maximum absorption Liothyronine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.

Your wife should take Liothyronine 2 hours away from Brintellix.

Vitamin D should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day as fat aids absorption.

You should check whether iron should be taken with or without food. Many supplements are advised to be taken with food.

Magnesium can be taken at night because it aids relaxation.

Thanks a lot this is incredibly helpful. It will just make it a little complex in terms of dosing times as I was hoping to help her by only having one time per day but that seems a little ambitious.

May I ask what is the rationale for keeping the T3 and the brintellix apart?

Tadpolefarm,

Taking T3 with food, drink or medicines reduces absorption.

Okay so taking it on an empty stomach causes a higher amount of T3 to enter the bloodstream as opposed to entering the GI tract through binding on other items. But why do we want it mostly in the blood will it be less effective that way?

Tadpolefarm,

Because from the blood it enters the cells and metabolises.

I doubt if she will be able to absorb the magnesium oxide. It's the worst form of magnesium. She might be better off with magnesium citrate, or magnesium malate. There are plenty to chose from.

And a multivitamins is a waste of money, it's doubtful she'd absorb anything at all from that.
