53y female, Prenatal vit with my 11am lunch to try to thicken my thinning hair, T3/6am (hr before breakfast), T3/3pm, gyno Rx progestin only

Long title but just joined. My first post here. Trying to get answers! My recent schedule has been:

6am - liothyronine 25mcg pills (T3 or Cytomel)

7 am - breakfast (Dr. Axe, bone broth protein shake and scoop of Collagen Peptides mixed with coconut milk or almond milk) I see the drink provides 5 percent of daily calcium. I know calcium is a no no near the T3. Worries me.

Other breakfast on some days is 2 eggs scrambled with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper and shredded cheddar cheese with toasted half everything bagel and cream cheese. Yep, more calcium one hour after my Lio. Also, the gluten in the half bagel. Is that ok one hour after my Lio dose?

11am - lunch ( i teach high school). I just began to take prenatal vitamins to try to help my thinning hair. These vitamins have it all-calcium, iron and iodine and biotin-all things that effect thyroid-BUT THAT WILL HOPEFULLY HELP MY THINNING HAIR! Lunch food can be anything I think bc far enough away from T3.

3pm - starving, feeling weak and stomach empty for 4 hours - take 25mcg of Lio. With lots of water to fill tummy, And wait an hour to eat something bc i just too the Lio (Ugh!)

4 - 5pm eat dinner finally!

Then I never get in my third dose of Lio bc it is too close to the Progestin only (Norlyda mini birth control pill, my gyno just put me on over a week ago). I hear any bcp must be taken far away from any thyroid meds! I take the mini pill bc of very bad painful periods and for its calming effects(the calm is so much nicer than feeling so anxious and on edge all the time!) my worry is she said she wasputting me on progesterone but that is not this. This is synthetic progestin and more likely to cause breast cancer(family history of) and also to cause hair to fall out, I just read esp once you go off of it!

If anyone has any experience with any of this, please respond! Or if you can think of a better pill schedule for me, or if you can think of smarter foods to be eating with the Lio? Maybe I should only eat a slice of ham or turkey for breakfast to avoid foids that may bind to T3? Yikes! This is forced fasting and yes I am losing some weight but I am hungry and sometimes weak also with zero snacking!

Thank you!!

Consider natural progesterone cream, you can buy it without prescription.

I use it just before bed, it helps with my mood and sleep.

Hi Hashi Monster,

Is it natural progesterone? What percent prog in the cream you use? Any side effects at all? Is it applied vaginally? Could I take Lio (T3) close to time I apply the cream? Where do you buy it and what brand? Thank you for responding! :)

There is 20mg per pump. I use the Biovea brand.

Because it is applied topically it will not affect your Lio absorption.

It’s NOT for vaginal application

My natural progesterone cream advises me I need 1/8th of a teaspoon, twice a day,to mimic the hormone cycle(I am well past menopause & I use a chef's measuring spoon for accuracy). However,I have taken to dosing once a day at bedtime,& just the same 1/8th of a teaspoon.

Thank you, Naomi8! May i ask the brand and the strength that you use? I see that it must be potent with the tiny amount that you use.

I also wonder if anyone responding is also on a T3/Cytomel/Liothyronine prescription like I am? If so, how many times a day you take, and any other helpful tips.

I also wonder, are you both using the progesterone cream bc of post menopausal symptoms, for the calming and sleep inducing effect?

Thank you!

I have a polymorphism of the COMT gene which means I have slow clearance of cortisol and estrogen.

I’m peri-menopausal and I use progesterone cream to reduce my thyroid binding globulin (TBG) and improve the effectiveness of my NDT.

me too!

one of the reasons I moved to NDT after 2 years on T3-only was reading about the effect on SHBG,so its good to read I am doing the right thing for TBG

I would start a new post to get other responses to your query about progesterone cream,as not everyone is following this thread.

The brand I use is Wellsprings serenity cream.Post-menopause,only a small amount is recommended.I have also used the brand Progest & the brand Natpro.Natpro had some supply issues awhile back & I found dosing with their airless pump tricky.I think Natpro is higher dose.

Here is an important article about how progesterone and thyroid effect one another.
