SaraAli , Welcome to the forum. Can you please clarify your situation further. Are you currently on any thyroid medication at all? If so, what dose and how long have you been taking it?

Hi, thanks for replying. no I am not taking any thyroid medicines, I just done private testing to see if I have any thyroid issues. As my tsh is within the range gp said I have no thyroid issues. I have recently started magnesium protocol. and just started b12 injections from a private doctor.

My ferritin is 14

folate 8.6

b12 238

serum cholesterol 6

vit d 44 after taking hux 20000IU for 6 weeks.

SaraAli, What was it that made you do the private tests? Are you experiencing symptoms? If so, what are they and how long have you been experiencing them?

The more information you can give, the more it will help other members to offer useful support.

about 10 years ago I was having pain in my bones and ribs and knees when my doctor said you may have vitamin d deficiency. so she prescribed vit d which I took on and off. Then my gp told me that I have low ferritin and I should start taking iron tabs. I started taking iron tabs on and off. But over the years my health was going down and down. after the birth of my daughter 7 years ago I was not very well. I had a very traumatic c section birth. After which I always felt tired, achy muscles, frustrated, anxious, moody. I also started to have umbilical hernia but dr said its not very big at that time. But over the years it was growing. my health was not that great. Gp said everything is ok. I had my 2nd child in 2014 by another c section. by that time I was very very sick like back pains, tired, brain fog, memory problems anxiety etc. I had done tests but gp said all is ok except low iron and vit d. My hernia was also growing and I found out I had a very big gap in my stomach muscles called Diastasis Recti of abdominal muscles and that was the cause of my hernia. I was referred in 2014 but was waiting and waiting for any treatment. it was just last year 2016 they did my rectus muscles repair and hernia repair. This was a major surgery after which my health deteriorate more. At that time my bloods were suggesting I have problems with Thyroid as high TSH 3.35, low folate it was 2.8, low b12 238, low ferritin 25. GP prescribed folic acid 5mg course and Hux vit D. and Iron. I took it and started feeling awful, all the symptoms of Thyroid and low b12, hands and feet's get numb, brain fog, vision problems, put on weight.

I started researching and then decided to do private blood tests. Hope this gives some background about all my health issues.

I think you should post this history on PAS. It possibly suggests the prime issue may be low B12.

Anesthetic for operations can deplete B12.

Taking folic acid with pre-existing low B12 can make low B12 worse

Marz is good on B12 - she may have some ideas

But you prehaps need to consider gut malabsorption as underlying issue. This can be due to low thyroid/Hashimoto's And/or coeliac or gluten intolerance

Significant supplements to improve ferritin, vitamin D and low folate and B12 (probably injections) might see you able to process more thyroid hormones and TSH may then rise

SaraAli Who diagnosed you as not getting enough T3? With a TSH that high and FT4 that low, you're not going to be able to tell if you're converting well enough. TSH would need to be down to about 1 and then see where your F4 and FT3 lie. If you've been diagnosed hypothyroid and are on Levo, at the moment your results show that you are undermedicated. What dose of Levo are you taking?

Also, vitamins and minerals need to be at optimal levels for thyroid hormone to work and conversion to take place. Have you had them tested - Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin?

Did you know that your high antibodies confirm that you are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's which is where antibodies attack the thyroid and gradually destroy it.

The antibody attacks cause fluctuations in symptoms and test results.

You can help reduce the antibodies by adopting a strict gluten free diet which has helped many members here. Gluten contains gliadin (a protein) which is thought to trigger autoimmune attacks so eliminating gluten can help reduce these attacks. You don't need to be gluten sensitive or have Coeliac disease for a gluten free diet to help.

Supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily can also help reduce the antibodies, as can keeping TSH suppressed.

Hi SeasideSusie! Concerning the OPs B12, assuming she gets it up, and hypothetically it goes HIGH, have you ever read or heard that a high B12 is also indicative of poor absorption?

OP, SaraAli, when will you again be able to get your labs/bloods drawn?

are you asking about b12 blood tests?

That's not something I've heard. They may be able to answer your question on the PA forum healthunlocked.com/pasoc/posts

I notice your Active B12 is on low side and Homocysteine and MMA are both marked as high

This suggests some degree of B12 deficiency (not uncommon with thyroid problems)

Suggest you post this also on PAS Unlocked as they are B12 experts

Did you have folate tested too - if so add this result

labtestsonline.org.uk/under...

Did you also have vitamin D and ferritin tested?

What is the range for these - you can edit the post to add ranges if you have them

Are you in UK - vitamin D units & ranges are different in different countries.

Hi there I'm new to this site. I'm on here trying to get some answers for my partner. She has been told that she would benefit from being on t3 but the Welsh endo medical board can't prescribed her it as it too expensive for the the NHS. Instead they have put her t4 up to 100mg which we been told will make her weight gain, hair loss and being tired worse. This is so frustrating and upsetting as my partner has back problems and the extra weight is crippling her along with trying to look after 3 children we are desperatly trying what we can.

Is there anyway we can private order or get it from abroad with out illegal problems.

Thank you in advance.

NATHAN
