Please write a new post with most recent thyroid and vitamin results
Plus what dose and brand levothyroxine and T3 currently taking
And what vitamin supplements
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing
Medichecks and BH also offer private blood draw at clinic near you, or private nurse to your own home…..for an extra fee
Here’s link for how to request Thyroid U.K.list of private Doctors but also list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologists who will prescribe T3
Ideally choose an endocrinologist to see privately initially and who also does NHS consultations
You are worth the expense. Don’t let your doctor decide whether you’re worth the money—cos you absolutely are. Fight this. You’re well on liothyronine. And if going back to levothyroxine only will make you ill, it won’t be a cost saving in the long run.
Normally I was under the impression that if an NHS Endo had initiated T3 your GP couldn't just stop it, especially if they agreed to take over the cost of prescribing, but I'm happy to be corrected.
Hi sorry to hear you are being threatened with this. I hooe you fight this if you can. National guidance is no one should be re reviewed if they have been seen by a NHS endo, unless there is a clinical reason. Cost is not a clinical reason. Also, the national guidance is that a GP can not deprescribe. You would need to be referred to a consultant. You can pick the endocrinologist, and I suggest you pick one known to be T3 open-minded. This can actually cost more as a process. A single referral to an endo costs the NHS anout £330. There are resources on TUK and ITT on this. You will need to be on top of your test results. If these are in range you can strongly argue not to be referred. See Slowdragons reply on test results. Good luck.
Thank you for all this information. Im terrified of being taken off Liothyrine and my health going back to what it was like. I suffer with weight gain and lethargy. Im so careful and attend Slimming world , Id rather not suffer. Do you know of any suppliments that mimic Liothyrine perhaps.
Hello there is nothing that mimics T3. Apart from.fighting the GP and using the national guidance that a GP cannot deprescribe I suggest you get all you vitamins in order and blood tests. The admin are really good on the support for the vitamins. On fighting it make sure they cannot say what you have is anything else. Read the nhs national guidance that is on line or pop onto ITT if it's not on the hub as a referenced file or post. I know the fear having been there and fought, good luck.
If it's a GP threatening to stop your T3, Liothyronine then he/, she cannot do so without Endo advice. What I would do is be lining up an Endo quietly so if you have to resort to have to seeing one again make sure its one that you choose. Be very picky over who that is because many are not T3 friendly. Who was it who prescribed it initially? Are they still around? This idea that they can just stop a critical thyroid hormone like Liothyronine is a complete nonsense. If it's come from your GP hopefully they will back down from their nonsense!
