Hi, does the cost of T3 vary dependent on which pharmacy you go to? My endo suggested it does. Is that true?
I am London based. Not sure if you are allowed to recommend pharmacies to me but perhaps through Private message.
Incidentally a friend picked me up some Turkish T3 costing £5 for 200 tabs but my endo is insisting I use the UK T3, which I will try for now, but financially I know that is not sustainable for me

Mercury Pharma T3 will cost £258+ for 28 x 20mcg. Any high street pharmacy should be able to order it for you and larger outlets like Boots and Lloyds may hold a stock. I'm not sure whether the price varies, you can ask around.
Your endo won't be able to tell which T3 you are taking unless you tell him. Buy a pillcutter from any high street pharmacy and cut the 25mcg Tiromel into quarters and take 18.75mcg if your endo prescribed 20mcg T3.
Having tried both I have found the Turkish L-T3 is superior. Beware that currently UK L-T3 has short expiry dates, so don't stock up for more than a month or so. I wouldn't pay the UK price for an inferior product. Also, pharmacies are allowed to charge what they like for private prescriptions and some less honerable ones add on various charges. If you had an appointment with the endo through the NHS insist they write an NHS prescription, otherwise I'd buy a cheaper overseas brand.
Thanks, I was just nervous. I wasn't sure how the regulation in Turkey compares with the UK, and I guess my endo isn't familiar with it either - hence why he wouldn't endorse me using the Turkish stuff. My GP thought it was a swell idea though!
Lots of people on this forum have been using T3 from Turkey for years. It is a reliable product, as long as your source of it is reliable. Someone buying directly from a Turkish pharmacy is probably safer than anyone else I would have thought.
I guess my only issue is the dosage. he recommends 5 mcg x 2 a day, but the Turkish pills are 25mcg so might be hard to cut and get this right. Any tips?
Tiromel tablets are very easy to snap between your fingers and thumbs. Just go with two quarter tablets a day which will give your 12 mcg daily instead of 10 mcg. I'm sure the 5 mcg x 2 was decided upon because the tablets are 20 mcg.
Thanks. I guess my only worry is I want to do this under the supervision of my endo. Therefore to change the dose he recommended and not tell him - however arbitrary it has been decided seems a bit scary. I am a big wuss.
I suggest you just take 12 mcg daily and tell him.
For cutting tablets into quarters I use a hobby knife I bought from Hobbycraft. It came with spare blades and each blade lasts for absolutely ages.
Some people prefer pill cutters but I never got on with those.
I'm not good at splitting tablets with my fingers, but some people can do it.
Trial and error is required to see what works for you.
It's somewhat ironic but you are more likely to get counterfeit UK liothyronine than Turkish. The profits from UK liothyronine are massive, probably bigger than selling crack cocaine. There's no way a counterfeiter could make up pills, put them in blister packs along with information leaflet and box for the same price as Turkish liothyronine (Tiromel). A reliable source is important so that the tablets have been stored correctly.
