Hi Suse40

I have had similar problems with my symptoms. I went to my gp as I felt so exhausted, brittle nails, hair loss, weight gain etc and my father has Hashimotos. He did a tsh test and it came back at 4.9 and my T4 came back at 11. He told me this was in the normal range!! which I think is up to 10. I also have tingling in my fingers and numbness in my fingers. He said none of this was related to thyroid. 10 days later a large goitre appeared and after an u/s and fna they decided to do a partial thyroidectomy on 7th August. I have just had my bloods redone this morning and was very careful to fast and get there as early as possible as recommended by this forum. I am praying that the results show something as the endocrinologist and the ent surgeon both told me that none of this is thyroid related except for the goitre. They are just looking at the tsh levels and nothing else.

I have an appointment next week for the results of the thyroidectomy and the bloods.

If they still say that I am within 'range' then I will be searching for another endo as it is ridiculous how they are blinkered by the basic tests.

Did your gp or whoever arranged for the blood test give you any indication of the results because although I am a novice, it seems your tsh is high and your T4 is low, meaning that you are hypothyroid I imagine, although the fantastic people on this forum can give you advice on your results in far more detail than I possibly can.

I wish you luck in finding out your results. .

Take care

Why do you have B12 injections? Do you have PA?

Folate is very low, usually recommended to take good vitamin B complex when on B12.

Essential to remember to stop taking any supplements with biotin in (most B complex) as biotin can falsely affect test results

You need to get thyroid antibodies tested.

Vitamin D is too low. Are you supplementing? If not start. Probably 3000iu daily and retest in 2-3months

Suse40,

TSH 4.1 is high in range which means your thyroid is failing. FT4 14 is low in range. Your thyroid results are consistent with the hypothyroid symptoms you are experiencing. Unfortunately, NHS won't diagnose hypothyroidism until TSH is > 4.5 or FT4 is <9.0. Ask to be retested in 3-6 months and arrange the blood test early in the morning when TSH is highest and fast (water only) because TSH drops after eating and drinking.

Folate is deficient which will impair B12 working properly. My GP prescribed 5mg folic acid to correct deficiency.

VitD is insufficient. My sister's GP prescribed 2 x 20,000iu D3 per week when her vitD was 40. I suggest you supplement 10,000iu D3 daily x 6 weeks then reduce to 5,000iu daily and retest in 4-6 months.

Serum albumin is low labtestsonline.org/understa...

Thank you for replying. I was thinking that they were high and low respectively although the doctor has said that they are perfectly ok.

I have been on Vit B12 injections for the last 5 years, from the first time I managed to convince the docs to test me for thyroid etc. and it came back that my B12 was low. They have never told me why it is low.

The doc has said that he wants me to try and get my folic acid up by diet instead of taking tablets.

I had to get more bloods taken this morning as he has said that my Vit D is borderline so he wanted to check my parabolic thyroid before deciding whether he is going to put me on meds or get me to do it through diet.

I have decided I am not letting it go this time as have been feeling horrible for coming up 10 years now but it has been getting worse to the point that I don't have a day were I am not in pain and feel that my kids are missing out and I know that it can run in families so want to make sure my girls are covered. My mum has been tested many times for it but her doc always said that she was within limits and that it was really difficult to detect. She has loads of symptoms also including a goitre but she now refuses to to back to the docs.
