Think you def need to go see your GP! Presumably you paid for the test because you are symptomatic?
I've had TSH at 6, (it went up after an early miscarriage), and had to have my thyroxine increased.
I've been reading about antibodies, and I'd like to get my GP to check mine... I've been diagnosed hypo for 17years, but I'm starting to read abut Hashimotos as a cause of hypo...
Thanks for the name of the blood service... I hadn't come across that one. (Not that I had searched properly.)
Surely blue horizon offered you some sort of suggested follow-up? I think 'medi check' do.
Shannza Those results absolute shout Hypothyroidism! Your TSH is over 10 (the magic number the NHS insists on for diagnosis), your FT4 is below range and FT3 just in range.
However, your GP may not accept private test results, not all of them will. In which case you invite your GP to do the tests himself. When having thyroid tests always book the earliest appointment of the morning and fast overnight, this gives the highest possible TSH which is needed when looking for a diagnosis, to obtain an increase in dose of Levo or to avoid a reduction.
Over range antibodies confirm autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroiditis in doctor speak). This is where antibodies attack the thyroid and gradually destroy it causing full blown Hypothyroidism. Some doctors attach no importance to this because there's no difference in treatment.
You can help reduce the antibodies by adopting a strict gluten free diet which has helped many members here. Gluten contains gliadin which is a protein thought to trigger antibody attacks. Supplementing with selenium L-selenomethionine 200mcg daily plus keeping TSH suppressed can also help reduce antibodies.
By the way, I can't remember if BH requires you to confirm if you want doctor comments, maybe a tick box, it was definitely required for my BH Thyroid Plus Twelve test. But the comments are generic anyway, very similar to what your GP would say - eg my TSH is always suppressed and a recent test showed FT4 of 12.8 (12-22) and they said that I was overmedicated!
