Do you leave an hour after taking levo, before eating? And at least two hours before taking other supplements? And four hours between your levo and iron? Spatone is iron, isn't it? Do you take that four hours after taking levo?

I ask, because you would seem to have an absorption problem, there. To only have your FT4 at 22% through the range on 175 mcg, does look like you're not absorbing very much. And your FT3 is only 3.3 %, so a bit of a conversion problem, too. But then, your iron is low, which might account for it.

Thankyou greygoose, I do . I also take solgar iron tablet during the night along with solgar vit c with rosehip. I am seriously thinking about buying some t3. When I was expecting my second child in 14 months 43 yrs ago I had Jectofer iron injections.

That might be a good idea.

miglet54 Ferritin needs to be an absolute minimum of 70 for thyroid hormone to work, recommended is half way through range. You must get yours up, Spatone doesn't seem to be doing the job. Consider ferrous fumerate, one tablet twice daily, each one with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation.

Even though 75-200 is replete for Vit D, the Vit D council recommends 100-150nmol/L.

You obviously have an absorption problem, whether it's just low nutrient levels or a gut problem ?????

Hello SeasideSusie, thanks for the advice. I take 2 sachets of Spatone and 2 iron bisglycinate 20mg each night, accompnied by vit c 1500 with rosehip, during the night on an empty stomach. I don't have lots of money but am considering an iron infusion privately. I understand it's £650. I'm not likely to get one on nhs, my grand daughters Ferretin was 9.1 the low in the brackets was 20. She's just 16, and permanently cold, heavy periods, gp said it's ok just eat more greens. They really are hopeless.

I think Spatone contains 5mg elemental iron, so your Spatone is giving you 10mg plus 40mg from your Gentle Iron, so a total of 50mg elemental iron daily.

Ferrous fumerate contains 65mg elemental iron, so if you took two of those (the normal dose for low ferritin) that would be 130mg elemental iron.

You could try including lots of iron rich foods from these charts

As for your granddaughter, words fail me :( I'd like to see how her GP gets on with a ferritin level of 9.1

Are you gluten free?

Have you tried good daily probiotic and fermented foods like kefir

Also bone broth - delicious made into homemade soup - this may help repair gut

Eating liver once a week could help your ferritin too

I've done the burping test with bi-car and I burp within seconds so I think I have high acid. On the odd occasion I have had stomac contents come down my nose whilst I'm asleep, it burns like nothing else on earth.

That may be a sign of hypo . Maybe try to take your thyroid meds with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or a teaspoon of lemon in a cup of water and see if that will help with absorption . Burning feelings might be acid reflux and that could be a sign of not enough thyroid and low acid . If you are "A" blood type it's very possible . "A" blood types have more of an absorption problems . Read Dr D'adamo's book "FOR YOUR BLOOD TYPE" .

There is one more thing you can try is splitting your T4 . Half before breakfast and the other half before dinner . It might just work for you .

Hi Jgellis. Ive heard of folk splitting T3 but not T4, infact the last endo i saw told me you could take all of your T4 for the week in one go. Be interested to know if this works for anyone?

I will go gluten free beginning Monday. I bought saurkraut and Kimchi. Both made my stomach burn. I have taken Omeprazol and Lanzoprazol, Ranitidine for 30 yrs. I don't have Helibachter pyloric. I don't take anything now unless it's really bad, then I use either bi-carbon or gavisgon.
