Help with blood tests results please.

Hi. I’m hoping someone can give me some advice please. This is my first post.

Background is I was diagnosed with ME 18 years ago. I feel I have had a gradual decline in health and energy levels over the years, no matter what I try. It is getting to the stage where I’m virtually housebound. I feel I am hypothyroid (peripheral neuropathy, swollen sore tongue, dry itchy skin as well as feeling rubbish, serious brain fog and no energy etc etc). Always been told I am ‘normal’ so am doing my own tests for now. I am also looking at Mast Cell disease and possibly the MTHFR gene test, but for the moment, I have just got these blood test results back.

HbA1c-(IFCC) 35 20 - 42 mmol/mol

CRP 1.40 <5.0 mg/L

Ferritin 63.3 20 - 150 ug/L

Magnesium 0.95 0.6 - 1.0 mmol/L

Hormones

Insulin 69.8 0 - 88(Fasting) pmol/L

Thyroid Function

TSH 2.25 0.27 - 4.20 mIU/L

T4 Total 93.9 64.5 - 142.0 nmol/L

Free T4 14.86 12 - 22 pmol/L

Free T3 4.62 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L

Reverse T3* 16.0 10 - 24 ng/dL

Reverse T3 ratio 18.80 Normal >15 Ratio Borderline 12-15 Low <12

Immunology

***Anti-Thyroidperoxidase abs H 44.9 <34 kIU/L

Anti-Thyroglobulin Abs 80.5 <115 kU/L

Vitamins

Vitamin D (25 OH) 69 Deficient <25 nmol/L Insufficient 25 – 50 Consider reducing dose >175

***Vitamin B12 H >1476 Deficient <140 pmol/L Insufficient 140 – 250 Consider reducing dose >725

Serum Folate >45.400 8.83 - 60.8 nmol/L

Does this mean I definitely have Hashimoto’s? Tests over past 2 years have TSH at 2.something every time. Should I be on thyroid med? (if so I plan to do it myself as have got nowhere with GP and endo so will need your excellent advice on that too please).

The B12 is off the scale and has been in blood tests I’ve had over last couple of years. I presumed it was because in 2009 I had various treatments for the ME, including high doses of B12 (Methylcobalamin 25mg intramuscularly weekly x 10). However now I’m wondering why it is still so high and what is the reason/significance? I plan to ask the PA forum for advice. Think I may have problems with using it/ Methylation cycle???

I’m about to do private blood test for Tryptase (Mast Cell disease) and I’m wondering about doing gene test for MTHFR now or whether to wait for the moment? I’m on PPIs but am about to try coming off them (aware of rebound issues).

Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Have you had liver function testing done? Any possibility of any liver disease? Or Coeliac? Or H. pylori infection?

Thanks for your response.

Yes I've had liver function tests at least twice since high doses of B12 and all normal as far as I can tell.

I did go gluten free (a couple of things improved slightly - maybe bloating and possible hair loss but energy no better) for a while last year but started eating gluten again for coeliac blood test, which was negative.

Don't think I've been test for pylori.

Can anyone comment on the thyroid test results please?

Thank you for your reply. That is the point I tried to make to my - GP - what if years ago my TSH was, say, 0.5. That would mean it is now 5x what my body is used to? He did refer me to see endo so I have to give him credit for that. He also said, under his breath, that he thinks a diagnosis of ME means they "just haven't looked hard enough"!

So I'm going to keep looking into other things. Will wait for results of other blood tests then will try and get some NDT if nothing else indicated.

Thanks

I will. I plan to see him with all the info I can get to back me up.

Why do we have to do all the research when we're not in a fit state to do it?!!!
