Apologies, another 'what do these mean' posts...

Is there anything the doc should have flagged up? I was complaining of major joint and muscle pain, even struggling to get on and off the wc - I'm only 46, my dad would beat me in a race just now with his arthritic knees!

Serum C = 9 (0-5.0) inflammation present - prescribed naproxen now

Vit D = 43 (30-50) - I have started on Vit D tablets now

Vit B12 = 261 (211-911) bit low?

Serum ferritin = 49 (20-291) bit low?

Free T3 = 4.9 (3.5-6.5)

Free T4 = 19 (9-23)

TSH = 0.9 (0.55-4.78)

Hello Fuzzbrain,

Both an inadequatly medicated thyroid issue and nutrient deficiencies can be the cause of muscle aches and pains.

You results show that B12 and ferritin need supplementing to bring up to optimal levels of half way through range.

T3 is low and as rfu has already pointed out, this is out of balance with T4 which shows a good result.

Some members with conversion problems have medicated on NDT.

I just added some T3 to the T4 that I was already taking and am already feeling a lot better.

VitD range sounds off. However your D level is LOW - it translates into 17.2 in ng/L - the range I am familiar with here in Crete. It's also the range used in the chart below - from the States. You can see the dose required to reach the target 60. I would suggest at least 4000IU's daily.

Your B12 is not a bit LOW it is VERY low ! Almost on the floor. Only 20% of that result will reach the cells where it is needed. So buy Jarrow Methylcobalamin 5000mcg from amazon and take them under the tongue until they dissolve. There are also good sprays for under the tongue. B12 needs to be around 900/1000.

You will also need a GOOD B complex to keep all the B's in balance.

Ferritin needs to be around 90 - so maybe some iron taken with VitC. Sorry not able to help with the best make of Iron. If you type Iron supplements - into the Search Box on the Green Bar at the top of the page - then press Enter - previous posts will appear !

What comments did your GP make and what suggestions for treatment ? If he said all was normal - then you need to take your health into your own hands right now.

Once all the above are where they should be - you will feel better. Being just in range is fine when you are young and fit - but if we have a thyroid issue or anything else - we need results to be OPTIMAL to help us feel well. it will also improve your FT3 level as conversion will also improve.

I can't thank you all enough, I've heard quoted somewhere else that having UAT is like taking a chemistry degree, and I've learned so very much.

When I phoned for my results they said you're normal, I'm not willing to relinquish my life yet, so had an appointment with the doc who only flagged up the Vit D "and it's not that bad, take a supplement if you want to". Oh yes, my health is definitely in my hands now! I'm only glad I've been taking a multivit since Feb or I would feel even worse!

I have a tear in my eye but it's relief as I can now be my normal proactive self. Thank you all so very much - can I send you all a virtual hug?!

Your multi-vit will not give you enough B12 or VitD. You need to supplement them individually :-) Please read my previous post above ....

A relative of mine has injections for vitamin B (I think 12 but I could be wrong) She has an under active thyroid too.

Personally I'd be tempted to take the vit D supplements and then go back and say if you're still not right, and ask whether these injections might benefit you.

With my relative, they put her on supplements and following further tests, decided she wasn't absorbing them. Hence the injections.

Hi, I'd try changing your diet too. I started kick start fat loss in January after being advised by my specialist to eat paleo / low gi style. I've also cut out sugar and cows milk. I've lost 4 stone which Is a bonus but also my muscle and joint pains have just about disappeared. I am also on T3 now but the first 2 weeks of the diet I wasn't and already felt much better. I can't believe the difference changing what I eat has made. It's not an easy change but it's worth it. I did eat an ice-cream the other day and got the first time In ages my joints started aching again. Hope you get the help you need.

I will be looking at specific supplements today and starting right away, as well as getting another doc appointment to see what is available on the NHS.

Dietary wise, I've already cut out bread and cut down as much as pos on wheat which has made a heap of difference to bloating but I'm a poor eater and more likely not to bother, so I have to be careful.

I'm also a typical UAT when it comes to being sensitive to food, I'm good with veg but sensitive to fruit and spices, bit of a nightmare when you don't want to eat anyway, lol.

If I lost 4 stone I would be way underweight, wouldn't mind to lose some but it's disappearing as I have no appetite while I hurt so much. I don't like chocolate, biscuits, cake or any fried food (yep, even chips, yuk, lol, yes I know I'm weird) anyway which is a bit of a godsend I understand, so I have to think hard as to what I can cut out, I've been keeping a food diary to see if anything flags up :-)

Didn't know that about muscle and joint pain, all my joints have recently got worse after levo increase :-(

I am testing the waters as well to see what works. I can however say with certainty the 35,000 IU of bit D will ease the pain and increase your energy. The amount seems to be a bit much, but it is what I was advised to take and it certainly had no side effects. I hope this helps in some small way.

Thank you. I've been looking at Vit D and other Vit prices today, I'll have to keep looking, the prices I've found so far are a bit high,although I believe my health comes first, you do have to actually have the cash to hand over the counter, and I'm looking at a lot of different pots :-/

Have you looked at the BetterYou vitamin D sprays you find in pharmacies, health food shops and I'm sure I've seen them in supermarkets. They last quite a long time - one spray a day - so they are quite good value. Saying that my bit D was never that low so I'm really just topping up.
