Hi, any idea about Natural Sources Raw Thyroid for hypothyroid? Any success? How did you adjust your dose to keep your thyroid hormones normal? Did it help to treat your hair loss, if you had?

Hi SVA, I doubt anyone with a diagnosed thyroid problem would take that. Does it tell you the source of the substance? I've seen bovine thyroid sold without prescription but it is far too weak. Pig thyroid is supposedly closer to human ratios.

I've also read that hair loss may be more due to adrenal issues than thyroid.

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply toHeloise

Hi Heloise, it's from bovine thyroid. I read many good reviews about it. Many people with hypothyroid took it and were happy.

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toSVA57

Does Dr. Lowe's wife still supply it? I think he developed a formula. If it is something that you can get yourself, that's wonderful.

Do you know the ratios in it? I can't recall them offhand but much weaker than pig. How much more do you have to take compared to porcine?

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply toHeloise

No, it is something different. I think Dr Lowe's wife supplies Thyro-Gold. here is the link : naturalthyroidsolutions.com...

But I have no idea about the dosage of Raw Thyroid by Natural Sources. The direction says only one capsule. I am wondering if it enough.

I found this old thread about ThyroGold and it has some interesting information by people who used it.

Thanks a lot. I read the thread and saw a lot of satisfaction, but they were concerned about the price. yessss, it is expensive.

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toSVA57

It also looks like a much higher dose may be necessary. One said she took 1200 mgs.

So it seems if slightly underactive, that may work but then again, maybe a little iodine would also work. I don't know if Dr. Lowe added adrenal or nutritional support in his but am curious about thymus and spleen glandulars??????? I've discovered two more things I have to learn about.

I hope the bovine works for you SVA and if it does, you know what you have to do. Is this is first hormone you are trying?

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply toHeloise

I was on Levo 2 years ago which is only T4. Actually I am curious about thymus and spleen glandular too. But I got a little confident because some friends in this thread have tried Raw Thyroid and seen good results. Are you on med for hypothyroid?

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toSVA57

Yes, long time. Long enough to know that the system is ignorant. Mismanaged for fifteen years and on my own have done much better. I'm getting my own T3 and it's working fine except getting suppliers is a problem and may force me back on Armour which also worked well but doctor is so useless and the one good endo around me is not taking new patients. I've posted the videos by the functional medicine doctor but this chiropractor is also great. Unbelievable knowledge re thyroid and adrenals if you care to watch.

Woww, I just watched one of his videos. A lot of useful and helpful information that we should know about our body. I wish all doctors had watched these videos.

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toSVA57

I know! I followed another doctor's bulletin board for ten years. He lost his license because of using methods that worked outside of allopathic medicine.

They are not really interested in curing anything. That's why they just "practice" medicine.

SVA, if you have any friend that has cancer. Tell them to look into IP6.

Dr. Bergman has many other great videos so be sure to watch the one on neuropathy, too.

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply toHeloise

Sure, thanks for the amazing info you have given me today. By the way, what is IP6?

Heloise profile image
Heloise in reply toSVA57

You're welcom, SV. Just keep learning. I can't express enough that you must be cautious with whatever doctors want to prescribe or do to you.

IP6 is a cell defense that promotes good killer cells. It can be used even with chemo.

It chelates iron which I guess feeds cancer and is non toxic. I wish I could get someone to try it. It's not even expensive. You can check it out wherever you buy your supplements. Maybe Amazon on iHerb.

I have written places that some people take up to 3 a day and that is what I have done as well. They do work though. And I did mention somewhere else before that the doctor keeps on asking me if I check my diabetes and not even I got a letter through the post from the diabetic clinic. Which I found quite scary. But so far I don't have diabetes so I'm assuming that diabetes and thyroid problems are linked full stop all I can say is probably my thyroid and other natural thyroid sources are keeping me balanced and away from the diabetes

Balancedchoices profile image
Balancedchoices in reply toSVA57

Everyone is different. But one was not enough for me. I kept some juice capsules in my bag and with in half an hour they backed me up. However most times I was taking 3 a day

I've just finished a bottle of this, taking one in the morning and one at night. It is sourced from grass fed bovine.

I definitely feel more human and have more energy. I'm ordering my second pot.

Hi Arantha, I am happy that it has worked for you. Do you take it with your meal? Did you have hair loss?

Arantha profile image
Arantha in reply toSVA57

I take it on an empty stomach - around 20 minutes before food and no, I don't have hair loss (thankfully) BUT then I never use chemicals of any sort in my personal hygiene. All shampoo & bodywash and moisturiser are from a Health Shop. I found years ago that I was sensitive to these chemicals and although I never suffered with hair loss, it is stronger and softer since changing products. (Also cured my daughter's dandruff when she changed to the non-chemical shampoo)

The kelp will give iodine which is possibly ok for hyperthyroid but a subject of dispute for hypothyroid..

Hi SVA57.

I'm 59 y old. Two years ago I had all the classic symptoms of hypothyroidism, subnormal freeT3, but TSH in the top of the range. So endo said my problems were not from thyroid!!!

One year ago I started taking Raw Thyroid, with my GP's accept. I started with 1x3 capsules daily and increased slowly the next weeks to 3x3 daily.

The next three months my energy level surged amazingly , I lost 5 kg ( without changing my LCHF diet), my hair loss stopped and I started to get at lot of new hair, my brain fog cleared, my sleep improved. Shortly, all my symptoms cleared up. I never had the slightest symptoms of over treatment.

After app. 8 months it was like the effect diminished. I took a break of some months to see if it made any difference and my problems returned!

After I had blodtest done, I started the same day to take RT again. Unfortunately my blodtests were ruined except freeT3 which was now even lower than before. I had the blodtests done again after one week and didn't take the capsules 24 hours before the test. My freeT3 had risen from 3.6 to 4.1 (ref 4.1-6.9 pmol/l) So within a weeks intake of 3x3 caps of RT my freeT3 improved from subnormal to just within range.

My TSH still in the upper range.

I don't know why the effect of RT weaned off after 8 months of use. My theory is that I was enjoying my new energy too much and not taking proper care of myself, so my system did it for me. (I had also low cortisol level)

Now I have taken RT 3x3 caps again for one month. My energy is not optimal yet but I have also had a very busy half year, so it takes time to balance.

I have no reason to suspect RT be anything but a very good quality product!

It is trial and error. We must make our own experiences.

1133 profile image
1133 in reply torsae56

You might seriously want to have your rT3 levels tested. rT3 tends to go pretty high when on a low carb diet. Solution is to increase the carbs and the calories, at least 3 days a week.

pooderdog profile image
pooderdog in reply to1133

One should always test RT3 when you test Ft3. At the same time. TSH IS a pituitary hormone so it's really useless. BUT DOCTORS STILL USE IT AND MOSTLY ONLY GO BY TSH!!! Makes me nuts. One should use a naturopath dr only trained in how to properly read labs, ignore the labs mostly and GO by how the patient feels along with the symptoms. Go to Stop The thyroid Madness.com you will see. Best, order their book by the same name on the website and that gives you all the information you will need ever. Take it to the doctor with you too. I bought one of my doctors the book, it blew him away!! Some only need T3 only, you can determine this by dividing your RT3 with your Ft3 the book will tell you how. You will love the website and book. To know if you only need T3 Cytomel or another brand, you do the division I stated above. If it is free T3 you want a number that is above 20. If you divide just T3 not free T3 then you want a number of 10 or above. Hope this helps. AND STAND UP TO YOUR DR THEY DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THYROID OR ADRENALS AND READ THEN TAKE YOUR BOOK WITH YOU FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT SO THE DR KNOW YOU MEAN BUSINESS!! OH. THE BOOK JUST COST ABOUT $23 OR SO. SOOOO well worth it. Good luck all.

So glad that Raw Thyroid has helped your symptoms. I saw an endo 2 years ago and put me on Levo. It did not do anything. I had all symptoms of hypo, so I stopped taking it. I do not have health insurance and try to find a way to help myself. I am like a dead body. Tired all day long, drag myself out of the bed every morning,no motivation, brain fog, weak muscles, puffy face. Just want to stay at home. My hair sheds like crazy.

But i still have hope.

Thank you. Your successful story gave me a lot of hope and motivation. I ordered one bottle of Natural Sources Raw Thyroid today. I will start with one capsule per day and try to increase slowly until I find the right dose.

rsae56 in reply toSVA57

I wish you lots of good health and hope RT will help you!

Just be aware of hyper symptoms like rapid heart beating, fine tremor of the hands and a feeling of inner unrest/ nervousness. If such symptoms appear you should stop taking RT immediately until symptoms disappear. Then you can start again on a lower dose. But you probably already know this ;)

Hi there. I ordered my natural dessicated thyroid on Amazon. It comes from a very reputable source - a huge pharmaceutical company which conforms to the States' requirements. It is porcine. Has no side effects that I can see. You need to read a book called Stop the Thyroid Madness. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. You can get your own cortisol saliva test kit from Genova Labs here in the UK and they also do bloods if your doctors won't play nice.

Hope this helps.

Hi LisbethT, Could you please tell me the name ? I'm in the U.S.

I follow Stop the Thyroid Madness on facebook and also I have checked the website. Did the natural dessicated thyroid help your symptoms?

LisbethT profile image
LisbethT in reply toSVA57

Hi again. It's name is Thiroyd - not a miss-spelling, it is called that. It is one that the author of Stop the Thyroid Madness has investigated and it is all ok. I have started to loose some of the weight, I have much more energy. It is small things that you notice. I am now taking 1 3/4 pills of it and aim to get to 2 and above. Am waiting for new blood results since taking it as well as a Cortisol saliva test. I will have words with my Doctor if she comments on the TSH - yet again, but am ready for it. I did increase it too soon and had a few heart racing moments, but just took it back by a 1/4 and started off again, but increasing it slowly and gradually. Works just great. I wish I had listened to a good friend years ago instead of battling along for 30 years on 100mg of Levo - I have no thyroid.

So, go for it, but try and get your GP on board as you do need them onboard.

Good luck.

Forgive me if I appear daft but do you take this Natural Source as well as or instead of your levothyroxene. I am hypo but like so many others my results don't show any problems with my dosage. I don't have a thyroid and my experience indicates that this causes major problems with regard to dosage. Hypo and Hyper with thyroid appear to be easier to treat IF you get a good endo. I would like to feel as fresh as a daisy again without the additional weight and am interested in this "natural" product.

Instead, but really better with a good quality NDT, like Armour, Nature Throid, etc etc.

Ok. They won't because of Big Pharma. You need to get a naturopath dr, allopathic type dr. They will. Your doctor doesn't get it, it's very common.

keep trying. You need the book I mentioned called STOPTHETHYROIDMADNESS.com take it to your doctor after reading or skim through it. It may help. Ask the people in the group of that site or join the Facebook group with the same name. They can help I promise. Tell them what you told us on here. Good luck but don't stop fighting even if you have to find a doctor who will rx it.

Thank you so much for your great advice. I won't give up. I have so much hope.

I take dessicated thyroid does dessicated mean its cooked. Is this natural sources stuff raw as in uncooked if so it might work better as our natural hormones are raw and unprocessed.

It also looks like it contains some adrenal support too. Not sure about the kelp though.

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply to

The label says " Whole Raw tissue concentrated from bovine sources specially processed (freeze-dried) at or below -5 degrees Celsius to preserve natural occurring vitamins, enzymes, nucleotides, lipoproteins and all other cellular components." It looks it is uncooked.

Kelp has iodine that helps thyroid function better.

I have Hashimotos disease, which made my thyroid quit working. I use real thyroid meds. For some people ndt can make Hashimotos worse. It did for me. It is important to know why the thyroid levels are low.

SVA57 profile image

My last blood test was 2 years ago. TSH, FT3 and FT4 and TPO.

TSH was around 5. TPO was fine but don't remember the others. Dr put me on Levo but it did not help me at all. I asked her for T3 she refused, so I stopped taking it. I don't have insurance and trying to help myself by over counter stuff.

faith63 profile image
faith63 in reply toSVA57

There are 2 antibodies tests, so maybe you are positive in one and not the other. Just a thought. Doctors are terrible at treating thyroid. Are you in the US?

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply tofaith63

You are right. Finding a good Dr who listens is harder than treating thyroid. Yes I am the US.

faith63 profile image
faith63 in reply toSVA57

I could tell, because they rarely get a ft3 test allowed, by the lab or the doctor. There, it seems the lab can refuse doing it, even if ordered by the doctor.

If i were in your shoes, and i was, I would order my tests, Without ins. I got mine done thru mywalkinlab..which is lab corp. It was like less than $100 at the time. I would make sure you have both antibodies tests and a reverse t3, as well as the usual. ft4 and TSH. You could have developed Hashi's in the mean time and need to know. See what they say. You may have to do more digging or find a doctor to help further investigate. Doesn't Obama care, make it so the uninsured can see a doctor? After that, i would order my thyroid meds online, if no doctor will help you. I just think it is important to know why you are low. Some people, like my son, have a high reverse t3, but the other labs are normal. He doesn't need thyroid meds, he has inflammatory issues and sometimes low iron can thro them off.

SVA57 profile image
SVA57 in reply tofaith63

Thanks a lot for informing me. I can't afford out of pocket costs. My husband is unemployed and we can't get health insurance through Affordable Care Act, Obama Care. However, I have ordered Raw Thyroid today. I will start taking it and see how it will work.

faith63 profile image
faith63 in reply toSVA57

I am sorry to hear all of that! I would have suggested Thyrogold from Dr. John Lowe, as the best route to take. He was a pioneer in thyroid, low metabolic treatment and would only put out the best product available. That was an alternative that you can be sure of working. I hope you would consider that. Also, you can order actual prescription quality meds, without a prescription. Armour, Erfa etc..i all available online, no prescription. I would rather have either of those, over the other 2, actually.

I take 2 x capsules of raw thyroid each day. One before food in the morning and one halfway through the day.

All of my hashimotos symptoms have improved and my energy is fantastic.

I started with 1 dose daily and stopped after finishing the bottle because I thought it may be a placebo effect.

2 weeks after stopping I had the worst symptoms I've experienced in months. Fatigue, aches, swollen throat, palpitations and so on.

I started the supplements again increasing to 2 per day and a week later I was full of vitality again. I am consulting with an autoimmune specialist to see if there is anything similar that can be prescribed as this kind of improvement is what I need.

Nhs has been useless. Beyond useless. Told me my symptoms are PMT, that I need the coil, that thyroid issues don't cause physical symptoms and that my symptoms make no clinical sense. Also the consultant I saw told me "100% guaranteed no clinician will find anything wrong with me but I'll refer you for a scan even though it will show nothing".
