Hi everyone.
I would like to try raw thyroid instead of the medicine. I have under active thyroid. But I also want to have a baby and don't know how safe it is as it says don't take it if pregnant or nursing.

Sophia16,
Not at all safe for a woman planning pregnancy because you have no idea how much, if any, active ingredient is in it. Women planning to conceive need TSH in the low-normal range 0.4 - 2.5 and when pregnancy is confirmed Levothyroxine dose is usually increased by 30-50%. I don't see how you can ensure TSH is low-normal or know how much dose to increase if you don't know what the active T4 content is.
Why do you want to switch to Raw Thyroid specifically - rather than, say, one of the prescription-quality desiccated thyroid products such as Nature-Throid or Erfa Thyroid?
sophia16,
Can you please give us some more information about your situation. Do you have a medical diagnosis of hypothyroidism? If yes, what medicine have you been prescribed, and are you currently taking it? And to ensure that there's no confusion, what exactly do you mean by 'raw thyroid'?
I am in Australia and takin 50mcg eurotoxsig at the moment. The doctpr prescibed it. My naturopath told me it may be better to take raw thyroid but I have checked that it says not safe when pregnant.
sophia16,
The whole purpose of prescription thyroid medication is to replace what your thyroid is not able to produce. Anything thyroid related that you can purchase from iHerb will not have the hormone/s in it that you need. In my opinion, your naturopath gave you potentially dangerous advice, regardless of pregnancy.
