hi I;m trying to optimise my thyroid function, had Graves disease at sixteen From then I developed a Goitre leading to thyroidectomy. I am now hypo and on 150 mcg levo. Blood tests of B12, ferritin and folate.are low in range and GP said they are normal so I'm looking to supplement. Also had Vit D tests and D2 was<10nmol/L, D3 was 34.7, GP put me on 800iu's of D3 per day and I've been on that 2 weeks.I've also been on a gluten free diet for 3 months as I have coeliac disease. Would appreciate any help.

Zebedee,

Can you post your blood test results with the lab ref ranges? Anything within range is described by GPs as normal but the ranges are very wide and hypothyroid patients generally need their results high in range. I think deficient or low B12, folate and ferritin may need separate supplementation rather than a multi-vit which may not have enough of the vitamins you need. b12deficiency.info/what-to-...

800iu is going to take a very long time to restore your vitD. My sister's was 45 and she is prescribed 20,000iu twice a week. I was prescribed a loading dose of 40,000iu x 7 days followed by 2,000iu daily x 8 weeks when my vitD was <10. vitamindcouncil.org/vitamin...

I really like this little video and discovered that I take pretty much everything he recommends. I got checked out for B12 - I was told I was fine but I was very low in the range and there is a family history if pernicious anaemia so I supplemented anyway and next time it was tested I was nearer the top end of the range - wasn't tested before I started Vitamin D but even with supplementing my results weren't that high. I also take an A-Z, slow release vitamin C - 1000mcg +zinc, ubiquinol - started with CoQ10. I take five Brazil nuts a day too for magnesium / selenium

Hopefully gluten free diet will make a big difference. There are loads of good recipes / products out there now. I have a friend who is in Coeliac UK and he gets a huge amount of information from them, he also seems to test GF regularly - think that came from Coeliac UK too.

GP didn't seem all that interested, gave me the Vit D and said that should sort out all the symptoms that I came to him with (Hypo symptoms) and he would see me in six months. when I asked for the blood tests he said it wasn't thyroid but Coeliac. Thanks for the links, I have looked at them but it is really hard to take things in at the moment so will have to go over it a few times, bit of brain fog. thanks again feel like I am starting to understand more about why I feel this way.
