Hi. I have been to the doctors again as really struggling again.

My grandma has been diagnosed with lung cancer. And my symptoms have got worse. Im scared to eat as i need to work and colleagues making comments about my leaving due to my stomach. One day i only had two breakfast bars all day.

Im having tests for colon cancer, stomach infections and everything to rule it all out and get the diagnosis of ibs.

In the meantime, the doctor has prescriped me Mebeverine 200mg slow realse capsules has anyone heard of this before?

Sorry to hear about your grandma, and that you are still struggling. I was prescribed 135 mg Mebeverine for my abdominal pain. Very common. I think, but not heard of 200 mg slow release.

Yes I had these earlier this year , they worked well and took about 3 weeks to feel better, They used to be called Colofac . The slow release are better as only 1 in morning and 1 in evening. . Hope you’re ok.

Mebeverine is helpful for calming down the pain and enabling me to be more confident about going out

so sorry to hear of your grandma’s diagnosis. It’s devastating. IBS is very much linked to stress and low mood. That’ll be part of why you’re suffering. When I was diagnosed with IBS back in 2004 I took drugs for the pain. I’ve no idea Whst they were. I was prescribed fibre gel as well. The following year I went on a juicing spree and juiced my way out of IBS. Probably not literally as I had a bout of that come back in 2009. It slinked off only to come back within the last 18 months. Stress is my main trigger and you can imagine the stress we’ve been under since COVID. My whole family has IBS as well.

I’d recommend, if you can, spend 30 mins, or just even 10 mins relaxing, close your eyes and listen to calming music/sounds. Just to give your body a break from the constant tension.

I hope your grandma can be treated and hope she can be helped.

Yes, I use Mebeverine all the time if I have problems with stomach cramps or wind. It helps enormously if you remember to take it about 20 mins before a meal. Sorry about your family problems and IBS does get worse if you are stressed, try to keep calm, not easy I know. Take your medication and I am sure it will help.

Totally agree with everyone's comments. You need to eat more as an empty stomach adds to pain and discomfort. Do you work in a large company because you need support and people making comments is bullying which is against the law????

Sorry to hear you are struggling, as others have said stress & upset can affect your IBS. I find mebeverine very helpful. Fortunately since retirement I have not got continual issues, but always have mebeverine handy.

If I get any sign of abdominal cramp they soon settle, & there does not seem to be any side effects. If I go out socially to eat I will take one prior to having a meal.

Best of luck

so sorry about your grandma, sorry to hear what an awful time you are going through. It’s no wonder you are struggling with it, it is bound to have effects. I can’t comment on the efficacy of mebeverine personally as I’m allergic to them. Most IBS medications I cannot take due to allergies. My doctors help me to manage mine with pain medications, I’ve been told that’s all they can help me with. Apart from Imodium I have to live with the effects. I understand where you are coming from with regards to others opinions. Unless you understand what this is like to live with, you can’t comprehend it. It doesn’t mean others can be so negative about it toward you. The most difficult thing to try to skip around are toilet habits, hopefully you have seniors at your place if employment who are more understanding?

So sorry I can’t give any advice that would be useful 😕

Hope life / IBS settles for you. Mebeverine made me super constipated (as it slows down your gut action), so I would suggest, keep up the soluble fibre and hydration! Good luck, its all trial and error (and yes stress is the devil)
