Avoid ibuprofen with IBS it can make things worse. Better with simple paracetamol

Paracetamol is not helping. I've been taking paracetamol for the past 3 days

Try buscapan that may help

I have just started on Buscopan. It seems already to be making the wind in my bowel more mobile. My problem with IBS is pain in the left side of my abdomen caused by trapped wind. When I have a flare up it often seems to be associate with stress and with the pain comes a feeling of extreme tiredness and overall illness. I’ve suffered from ibs for years (I am 77). I keep on trying different things. I’m hopeful the Buscopan may help

Ibuprofen is the worst thing you can take. If you're bloated with trapped wind try taking some charcoal, or just simple cooled (but still warm) boiled water.

First time I've heard of charcoal but I just done a Google search and it's good for constipation. Will have to give that a go

I've tried ibuprofen, it doesn't, I repeat, doesn't help, I've tried even Tylenol, and advil, none helped, I have been taking 18grams of polyethylene glycol every night, it seems to help a bit with keeping a smooth bowel movement for the most part. I would also look into linzess, it does help to get things moving if your constipated but be warns it will give you the runs. Also look into the low fod map diet, it seems to help find triggering foods that causes alot of the bloating and pain due to bloating that you would get from certain foods, hope this helps you.

I've heard drinking ginger tea can help. Not a fan myself but worth a go. Not sure if you're constipated or going too much.

I have been drinking lemon and ginger tea but maybe I need to make my own with fresh ginger

I find the best thing is to lie flat on the bed and massage my colon with lavender oil in any oil. Videos on YouTube. Also I sometimes take 5ml milk of magnesia or settlers wind relief tablet.

Thanks for that i have tried the massage and feeling somewhat better and will try again later. Also I was thinking of taking milk of magnesia but I wasn't sure if it was safe. I will try that tonight

I didn't have lavender oil so used olive oil and I feel almost better. Thanx a bunch 😗

Glad it helped. I don't think it matters which oil. It's the massage that helps.

I wouldn’t use Ibuprofen - it can easily upset your stomach, especially if not taken with food.

Have you tried Colpermin as an alternative to Buscopan? I find it gentler and more effective.

I also find gentle exercise helpful - just walking a mile or two, or swimming seem to help.

Hope that’s of some use.

I was taking colpermin 1 hour before food but at the moment I am fasting for Ramadhan so this is not possible.

I think I will go for a slow walk

Do not take Ibuprofen if you have IBS it will make it worse.

Thanks

I know lots of people swear by Colpermin. I have IBS-D. It made me worse but maybe if you’re constipated it will help. I know ibuprofen is harsh on the tummy but I took some yesterday for back pain & they didn’t have any bad effect on me. Good luck.

Oh dear I’m sorry. Are you allowed drinks? Maybe peppermint tea?

Yes food and drinks are allowed between sunset and dawn so not many hours. 4 hours to be precise.

Hi

I'm so sorry you are suffering I truely feel your pain as I'm treating a current flare up too.

As a nurse now non practicing due to my illhealth (also have Crohn's disease, functional gut disorder/ibs, diverticulitis, arthritis and had many operations for endometriosis) I would suggest avoiding non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs often called nsaids for short these are ibuprofen aspirin naproxen etc. For years I took ibuprofen to help ease my pelvic pain so I could continue working but wish I hadn't as I don't think they helped my gut at all and probably made my gut a lot worse. They are known to aggravate ibs.

After dealing with this for some years I've found that its a case of finding what works for you as an individual.

I take mebeverine 3 day before food. Buscopan 8 day. I take a good probiotic called Quest mega 8 biotix now buy on amazon as cheaper than healthfood shop. You can take it out with you if eating out but at home I keep it in the fridge.

As for diet my consultant said wheat and dairy are biggest groups to aggravate but get some advice if you try reducing or eliminating anything from your diet as you can quickly become deficient in vital nutrients. I've done fodmap it does help definately recommend that..again best with advice from dietician if poss. Lots of recipes and stuff on Pinterest including sweeteners added to foods and in drinks that I didn't realise were giving me cramps.

I also buy otc wind settlers although they are currently not as easy to get they do help me with the awful wind pain, as does laying flat with a heatpad when its very bad.

Stress comes and goes as it does for us all and I find at times stress aggravates me and causes a flare up other times not..hard to predict.

I also hadmy gall bladder removed many yrs ago and suspect an element of bile acid malabsorption plays up at times...I use questran powder which helps too this was given to me by my consultant.

I hope some of what I've shared will help you.

Let us know

Take care

I have took mebeverine before when I was first diagnosed with IBS 13 years ago but it didn't help. Maybe I should try again.

I do try to keep away from culprit foods but find it hard to stick to a diet.

Feeling a bit better after a colon massage found on you tube as suggested by auntyjean
