Is pelvic/groin pain normal for IBS?

I've recently been diagnosed with IBS but I'm concerned I've been miss diagnosed. Majority of my pain is in my pelvic area going into my groin (like period pain but 100x worse) and a lot of what I've read about IBS is people with stomach and abdominal pain which I do get from time to time normally when constipated but it's nothing like the pain I get in my pelvic/groin area. And IBS medication doesn't seem to help (buscopan and mebeverine also paracetamol and ibuprofen) is this normal for IBS, I'm worried that it's maybe something else and it's getting overlooked. I have had blood tests done and they came back all clear and my stomach and abdomen area has been examined but not any lower. I'm just such a worrier and IBS is very new to me so I'm not sure if it's normal for most of my pain to be in this area. Any help or advice would be so greatly appreciated

Hi there, to be honest I'm not entirely sure what they were testong for. I had a couple done because they thought I had a bowel infection but the tests didn't show any sign of infection

Hi, sorry to hear u have been suffering. I'm pretty much in the same place as u with this.. my pain was all in my pelvic area and I thought it must be something really bad.. I went for CT scan and was given the all clear for bowel cancer 😅.. I didnt realize how bad IBS can be.. I've only just been diagnosed with IBS.. I tried not eating all day yesterday and just having a milkshake, I must admit I did feel a little better for it. Hope you feel better soon.. If you are worried you should push for more tests, even just to put your mind at rest.. All the best Xx

Hi thanks for replying, the doctor did say he didn't thinknit was anything to do with bowel cancer. I did mention concerns I had about endometriosis or some sort of cysts and it was pretty much ignored. I have since managed to get an appointment next week with a different doctor so hopefully they will be willing to look into it for me. My mind is just telling me there's something more than IBS going on and it's really stressing me out which I'm sure doesn't help the pain.

Sorry to hear you're having the same pain, hope you manage to find some sort of relief xx

I'm exactly the same, cant help thinking its something worse, I wake up every morning in pain, mostly the bottom part of my stomach/pelvic area.. my breath is awful, and have a saw throat🤦‍♀️.. hope your appointment goes well next week. Good luck..Xx

Soundslike a hiatus hernia. Acid reflux will cause a saw throat and pain is worse am after laying down all night

My doctor doesn't seem to think my pain is IBS related. I've been refered to a gynecologist and to get examinations and scans etc. It might be worth your while seeing a gyno :) hope you feel better soon x

I have a hernia in my groin area which comes out when constipated. This is very painful. But you would feel a swelling i think if this is the case

I was checked over for a hernia in my abdomen and nothing was found. However my groin area has not been examined. However there is no sign of swelling or any kind of lump or bump. I'm worrying more so if it's anything like ovarian cysts or endometriosis, from what I understand endometriosis can quite often come with the same sort of symptoms as IBS

I have a hernia in my lower bowel where it has pushed through the abdomen wall, I have to keep my poo soft by taking Cosmocol. I also have a groin hernia that seems to go hand in hand with exercise but nothing is showing externally at all. I think you might need a scan because that is when they found mine. When mine starts up it is like having a toothache and very uncomfortable. No chance of getting it sorted at present during the virus so I just have to live with it, I even have to be careful passing wind because that can bring on the pain.

Sorry to hear your having trouble. I'm not so worried about hernias, it's more the route of ovarian cysts or endometriosis that I'm worried about

Hi thanks for replying, I'm sorry you are suffering with the same pain. It's reassuring to know I'm not alone, but my head is telling me it's more than IBS and I can't shake the feeling it's something like endometriosis or maybe cysts. It's driving me nuts

Took me a couple blood tests, a ct scan and a colonoscopy to finally accept it. I hope you can find answers to you symptoms soon too.

Got diagnosed with ibs four months ago and most of the pain was in the pelvic region. I was worried too and got a lot of tests done at gyno, urologist, etc just to be sure. After the test there was nothing found, but the ease of mind I got afterwards was priceless. Also, can confirm I was in the exact same boat for months thinking it was something different from ibs. Went to three different gynos to get confirmation.

My doctor doesn't seem to think my pain is IBS related. So I've now been refered to gyno and have tests and scans next week, it's already done wonders for my peace of mind at least now I can know for sure if there is something else going on.

Sorry you experience this pain as well, I can fully sympathise with you and hopr you manage to find a way to manage it :) x

Hi there

I have had this exact same thing, and have had all the tests, all of which came back normal. I sometimes think I have appendicitis it is so bad. I do think it is often caused by constipation and for me, that seems to be the case. Sorry can't offer any solution.
