My mother is almost 80 and for the past month has been suffering with ongoing diarrhea, has lost 16lbs in a month, has not taste for food Her stool tests were normal but they only tested for campilbator and e coli. Her blood test shows a reading of 9.3, showing she is anemic. She is due to see a gasterinterologist on 19th February (tomorrow) but her GP has not given her anything to help with the iron deficiency. She is weak, confused and depressed and I have been reading about PA and wondered if she needs to have the B12 injections? The doctor thought she would be having a colonoscopy or endoscopy so was reluctant to start her on any iron supplements/treatment and told her to eat leafy vegetables and 2 eggs a day. However, she is hardly eating as she has no taste and an ongoing upset stomach.

She has just recovered from breast cancer and just finished a three week radiotherapy treatment in September. Any anyone has any suggestions or has experienced this, I look forward to hearing from you.

To be honest I don't think we'd be qualified to help for this one. Your mum needs to see a Dr.

I've lost weight with ibs d but over a much longer period of time and have low (not anaemic yet tho) iron. I just take a supermarket iron supplement but there seems to be a reason the Dr isn't doing that yet.

I'd see what Dr says, if they're not much help then see a different Dr. All the best, hope you get her better.

I agree with pajohns, your Mother needs to see the Doctor again. The only thing I will tell you is that Doctors do take notice if you lose more than 10% of your body weight.........then the alarm bells will ring for them. (UK) Good wishes.
